Skater Elf
Hey, I've posted it before, but if you've seen the new trailer, Legolas skates down the stairs of Helms Deep while firing arrows. How can one explain the phenomena?
He's "surfing" down the stairs on a shield.<p>[ October 16, 2002: Message edited by: Galadrie1 ]

That'll be interesting to see - blond surfer dudes existed in Middle Earth too!
I saw that and me and my friend practicly died of laughter. I cant wait for the movie to come out!
I don't see why it's such a big deal. Sledding down a snowy hill has been around a lot longer than surfing, and the former seems to describe what Legolas is doing better than the latter.<P>Legolas is a bright Elf, and anyone could figure out that you can get down the stairs faster that way. So there's nothing really anachronistic about it. Sure, Tolkien never said that Legolas did that, but he never said that he didn't.
I agree with Diamond18. But I do think its going to be cool to see him doing that on the big screen. <BR>Though I think it would be pretty cool if there was a skater elf... I can't really picture one, but thats probably what I would be.<p>[ October 16, 2002: Message edited by: MYyyPreciousSS ]

I'm a martial artist myself, and a student of combat. First of all, the LOTR choreagraphy comes very close to being realistic. Obviously, its fantasy, so the rules can be bent. But Legolas would probably be skewered with a pike or a schiltrom of some sort. all some has to do is knock the shield out from under him and he goes flying.<p>[ October 23, 2002: Message edited by: Helkasir ]

Just a way to fruther get into the audience that he is an elf and that elves have superhuman balance, reactions, and senses.<P>If they had Gimli doing it then Id be scared.<p>[ October 17, 2002: Message edited by: GreyIstar ]

Skater Dwarf? whoah.
What if Gandalf did it. Though he'd probably get his new outfit dirty.
Pippin: (falls on to sheild and slips down the stairs, then Gandalf says calls him a fool of a took again)
Ah yes, but Pippin was never at Helm's Deep.
I think the surfing is very sexy. Legolas is lithe like a cat. If someone knocks the shield from under him, he'll just do a little spin in the air, and land on his feet. <P>(Hm, and I thought I was a mature person )
Ah, but <I>we</I> all know differently Lush, and that's why we love you. <P>I personally would like to see any orc get close enough Legolas to knock the sheild away.
I hope he jumped off the shield before he landed smack in the middle of a group of Orcs.
Sk8er elves/dwarves/wizards.....that would be pretty funny to watch! LOl how about a sk8ing Sauron or Saruman. LOL. Can you imagine if Arwen tried, she'd probably fall off and mess up her pretty little face. *snickers* Okay im too mean... :P
mean: maybe <BR>but <BR>funny?: YES!
Who's going to be the first to write a "Sk8er Boi" parody based on that shot? <P>"He was a skater elf..."<P>LoL. If I think of a way to do that, I'll post it here...<P>~*~Orual, in her first post, right off the bounce from her last board, hoping to high heaven that this one will be better~*~
Greetings, <B>Orual</B>! Hope you like it here! I really love it!! I'm pretty new myself, but I was so greatful to find others just as crazy as I am! <BR>Arwen
Thanks, Arwen! I've been lurking for a while, and it seems a lot friendlier than the old board (which wasn't LotR, by the way). It'll be nice to be hanging out with people as obsessed as me! <P>~*~Orual~*~
So it was a SHIELD he skated on! I thought he was just sliding down the stairs! Interesting trick, but Elves are light on their feet, don't you know.
I can't wait to see that part of the movie I think that would be fun! Surfing down stairs on a shield! Awesome!!<BR>Arwen
I wonder how many people will hurt themselves trying to surf down the stairs like him. my friend stole a caffeteria tray from the lunch room and durfed down a hill once..it's almost the same....almost
