Question bout FotR

In FotR, at the Mirror of Galadriel, Frodo looks at it and sees the images of Legolas, Merry and Pippin, Sam, and then the Shire being destroyed.
But why is Legolas in there?! He's not a Hobbit, nor does he live near the Shire! Can anyone answer this for me?

LePetitChoux 01-05-2003 11:54 AM

Ah, but he sees members of the fellowship turning away. This is supposed to say "You're on your own, nobody is absolutely faithful.
I think.

Barodir 01-05-2003 11:56 AM

If that's the reason, why weren't Aragorn, Gimli and Boromir shown?

FarathrimMaiden 01-05-2003 04:26 PM

Well, understand more is said of what Frodo sees in the book, have you read fotr yet? If you havnt i reccomnend you do, you will get a nice little surprise involving Galadriel's mirror.

I have read FotR, thanks you. My question was on the movie, not the book. Can you answer it?

Nurumaiel 01-05-2003 04:43 PM

Have you seen the extended version of FOTR? Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Legolas in the mirror are scenes from the extended version.

mollecon 01-05-2003 04:45 PM

Huh? But Frodo doesn't only see one image, he sees several - not necessarily linked geographically & in time...

Barodir 01-05-2003 04:59 PM

Look, the question is simple: Why is Legolas there? He's the only non-Hobbit shown in the mirror. Why?

maikafanawen 01-05-2003 06:19 PM

what kind of answer are you looking for?
Maybe he's supposed to represent the elves in the fact that he is completely alone in this and not even the [elves] can't help him. (since now that Gandalf's gone elves are most powerful)
??? I'm just throughing that out there ???

Barodir 01-05-2003 08:44 PM

That could be it, but why werent dwarves and men represented then? I'm completely confused now.

Hehe I agree with FarathrimMaiden. If you read the FotR, you'll see.

It would have taken a bit more time to show each and every person. Legolas was just one of the people. There were images that Frodo saw that we did not see. He didn't see just nothing when the camera showed him or Galadriel. If they had shown everyone BUT Legolas you'd probably be asking why they didn't show him insted of vice versa. He symbolized all of them in a sense.

Maybe they...uh...messed up?

doug*platypus 01-15-2003 07:14 AM

As was said above, look at the extended version. It will then make sense. But you probably still won't like it. I don't. And why wasn't Sam allowed to look, as well? Great scene, but it could have been a little better. What ever happened to foreshadowing?
