Gollum - no Smeagol?
 

Am I wrong or did Gandalf say that Gollum's name was Gollum before he got the ring?<BR>He said something like that a person called Gollum took it. Wich isnt right when his name was Smeagol. <BR>Im not childich but im not sure im right.

His original name was Smeagol, but people began calling him Gollum because of the *gollum* noises he would make in his throat. (he began making these noises after he got the ring, he made these noises out of self pity for himself because everyone began hating him, I asume).

<center>I know what you mean, maeglin.<P>Instead of explaining how Smeagol got the ring (after murdering his friend deagol) and then it turned him into the loathsome gollum, gandalf just said that gollum got the ring - he was never shown as hobbit-like smeagol.<P>I dont know why that happened.... maybe they'll explain it in the next movie(s) when gollum is tamed by frodo? *looks hopeful*

Im not such an "unknower" i'v read ALL the books several times. What i meanth was how you where told in the MOVIE. This is the "Movie-Forum" after all.<P>Sorry if I was a little unclear.
