Its not a Tolkien book but it is about "Tolkiens Ring", thats the name of the book by David Day. It has some great storys in it like the Volsunga saga and the Arthurian Legends. A great read.

There are 12 volumes of The History of Middle-Earth to read, and if you want to get to know the author better, you can read Humphrey Carpenter's biography of Tolkien and Tolkien's letters. There are also the shorter stories Farmer Giles of Ham, the Adventures of Tom Bombadil, Leaf by Niggle (those included in the Tolkien Reader), Smith of Wootton Major, the children's book Roverandom...

There's also any book of mythology. After all, Middle Erath was a constructed mythology. I think Norse legends would be like Tolkien. OOH! Beowulf is a great epic!
