Back to the light...

im wondering, what do you guys do that is Lord of the Rings-ish that makes you feel better once in a while? Today i had left my friends house and i felt like walking through the woods. i started running and it felt so good, just running through the snowy woods in the cold air. it reminded me of Legolas Gimli and Aragorn when they are running to save the hobbits, except i was just running for the fun of it. Does anybody else do stuff like that?

VanimaEdhel 01-18-2003 04:54 PM

Well, I've been dancing around on top of the 2 or 3 inches of ice we have at home, pretending I'm an Elf every night, does that count? And I come on here...

I was frolicking and singing outside last night...scary...

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-18-2003 04:59 PM

were you dancing or nancing? if it was nancing then yes yes it does..
P.S. Just noticed I've been promoted to Wight!

I go out and slay Orcs in the back woods. There's this great hill that I use as an Elven fortress, and there are thousands of Elfs lining the ridge, bows cocked....Then the Balrog comes.

eleanor_niphredil 01-19-2003 08:38 AM

All the time. Whenever the sun rises and it is red, I say

"A red sun rises. Blood has been spilt this night"

I often get funny looks for that. I also always draw people as elved in art, just to see if anyone notices, and daydream ALOT. Thats all I can think off right now.

Gorwingel 01-21-2003 12:54 AM

When I went on a hike a few days ago with some friends, we joked about how we were on a quest, to distroy something cursed.
And then my friend kept tripping and I would say "You wouldn't make it very far on a quest". And my sister recieved a ring for her birthday, and (no, it was not a one ring) I joked that it was powerful and that she would have to go on a quest to distroy it.

purplefluffychainsaw 01-21-2003 08:07 AM

We're doing a hike thing with school and me and my LotR loving mate are going to annoy the other 3 we're walking with as much as posible by just doing as much LotR stuff as possible...

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-21-2003 11:17 AM

great! I can't wait till spring comes....there is so much greenery around my town, im going to spend all day climbing around in the trees...

galenfea 01-21-2003 12:44 PM

I canter round on my pony pretenting to go into battle!!!!!

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 01-21-2003 02:56 PM

Personally I love wandering around under the stars, singing.

Meela 01-21-2003 03:06 PM

i nance along the roads and in the garden a lot. and i sing, and wear my hair elven style, and when its windy i do the eowyn thing when she stands on the platform at edoras looking out over the land, and recently i took to wearing one of them bands across my forehead like she does. i also act out about a bazillion of the scenes whenever i feel like it

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-21-2003 06:05 PM

I'd love to go around on a horse, pretend im preparing for the Fields of the Pelennor, or wherever the last battle for middle earth was held...grr i can never remember..but im going to weave a rope hammock or something and hang it in a tree. then when i feel like it i can go and lie in it

Galadrie1 01-21-2003 09:04 PM

In the summer I go out to my backyard where it's very green and shady and private. I sit on the swing and write poems. I like to pretend I'm a certain hobbit in Rivendell when I do that.

I also like to lie on the ground and look at the stars, and for some reason it makes me feel very Elvish.

With the unbelievably cold weather we've been having here lately, every day after school I wish Gwaihir would come, pick me up and fly me home. *sigh* If only that could happen....

I'm the only one in summer, na na na nee na na!

I'm really not that gloating in real life...okay, maybe just a little...

I'm in NZ, by the way.

Whenever it's windy I'll do the Eowyn thing on our deck (verandah), and I actually manage to calm down after listening to the sound-tracks. Which I do a lot. And dance to them. Actually I danced in my medeval dress (unfortunately it has the wrong kind of sleeves to be Elvish) and, since I'm blondish with short hair (which most definitely not my fault), and my dark-haired friend refused to be Arwen (wanting to be a wood-elf wearing the green dress - again the sleeves disqualify it from being Elvish) I got my black shawl and put it over my head (for the hair), and then got my pearl necklace for the tiara. Everyone except Kementari (this isn't her real name, BTW, just her Elvish one) thought (and thinks) that we were nuts.

And I do the elf-running thing all the time. And the re-enacting of scenes.

Anyway, I just want to show you my sympathy.

Lots of love and God bless!

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-22-2003 10:49 AM

YOURE IN NEW ZEALAND! ah youre so lucky its beautiful there. next time i go horseback riding, i will probably be LOTR-spaced out and if i hear a car horn im probably going to yell THE HORN OF GONDOR! and start galloping towards the sound....never mind that everyone will be yelling at me to stop...lol ah but i tried weaving a hammock for the summertime yesterday...needless to say it didnt work..

Bekah 01-22-2003 12:16 PM

It is beautiful here!!

Unfortunately, I live in a part of it which doesn't look remotely like Middle-earth!! However, I've been to Taranaki & Ruapehu several times - and seen Nguarahoe lots too. Rua. and N. were used as Mt Doom, though it sounds weird, using two mountains. And I've been to Kaitoke Forest out of which springs the Hutt River, and Kaitoke is the home of Rivendell/the Ford (if you want him etc.)/the Fords of Isen - and the Hutt River is Anduin. And I've been to a couple of towns which were apparently used as 'introductions' - don't ask me, 'cos I don't know.

I'm borrowing some horse gear off somebody without a horse, as I have a horse but no gear. I know hoe to ride, so with 3 1/2 rolling acres to ride in...when a car goes up or down the drive and encounters the ducks or another car coming the other way - "The horn of Gondor!"

Oh well, I'll leave you guys in peace now.

engwaalphiel 01-22-2003 12:28 PM

hiking , and walking which i love doing especially around where i live , (it's so beautiful) .
Just looking at a certain type of sky can make me feel ringish .....

Meela 01-22-2003 03:10 PM

im gonna move to NZ when i can
at the moment though im lucky enough as i live in Rohan (believe me, it is the spitting image) so all i need is a horse and im all set!!

Bekah 01-22-2003 06:11 PM

Lucky thing! I live in the North Island, and Rohan was filmed in the South, and since I'm unlikely to go there any time soon ...when I'm older I'm going to take a complete tour of N.Z, not to mention Scotland, Ireland, Wales...and other places, of course. Mintyztwin 01-22-2003 07:20 PM

'Tis the full of the moon, and his silvery beams lance slowly toward Arda, and my heart.
Be still, elf-maiden, and listen to the water, 'tis the voice of Ulmo, tugging at the strings of your heart.
Listen to the music of the whispering wind, as it sighs through Yavanna's trees, you can hear the call of your heart.
Run swift through the woods, toward the last lights gleaming, and journey to the wide, wild sea,
There light on a ship, and journey cross the waters, go where your heart longs to be . . .

Excuse me, I am going to go cry now. But that is what I do when I want to feel elvish . . . *sniff*

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-23-2003 12:46 PM

OKAY just ignore my other back to the light, it was only temporary as this one wasnt working yesterday. Ah last night i had a sudden urge to go outside and look at the stars. So, blistering cold that it was, i went out, sat in a tree and stared at the sky. I was freezing my butt off but it felt very nice. Not freezing my butt, the looking at the stars.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-27-2003 12:19 AM

Help! (yet again )
I've only a vague idea of what nancing is, can somebody give me a clearer one?

Bekah 01-27-2003 12:20 PM

Same here! Is it like Elvish dancing or something??

Vardadurwen 01-27-2003 01:13 PM

Wow, I've never been in this section of the Barrow-Downs before, but it sure looks like a lot of fun! WOOHOO!
But anyways, I will wear my hair in elvish style, especially now that it is quite long. But I'm also fairly short and I have this perfect hobbit costume that I kind of made out of my own wardrobe and so I like to dress up in that and make my hair all curly.

There was this one time at my youth orchestra when I walked in and sat in my chair and my friend beside me said: "*name* you look exactly like a little hobbit!" Needless to say, it made my week haha.

I also listen to the soundtracks when I'm down or angry. It'll calm me down. I also like to listen to them while reading the books because I really do think they go very well with the books.

Um...I as well enjoy walking under the stars and singing. Or just walking under the stars. Or just singing hehe. I appreciate a lot of nature and where I live is kind of like the plains of Rohan, but I don't have a horse I can ride on

Oh and of course I act out scenes too!

Well, once a teacher walked past me and me friend when I was wearing my hair Elf-style and said to me You look like an elf!
I was so happy!

Bekah 01-27-2003 01:24 PM

I, too, like listening to the soundtracks when I'm down or angry...they calm me down. Of course, my family are sick of them by now, but no matter...

Lots of love and Eru bless ,

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 01-28-2003 12:14 PM

Ai! Please answer my question if you know it! What is nancing? I am very confused...LOL

Bekah 01-28-2003 05:24 PM

Maybe you'll just have to wait a long time until someone visits this thread who does know what nancing is...I'm afraid I don't, though I would like to know...

~ Elentari

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 03-23-2003 04:00 AM

Someone has put a definition of nancing on Sauron's discount rings, I don't think it describes elves but i can come up with nothing better.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 03-23-2003 03:21 PM

Thank you Galenfea!

Spring is in the air...and I did a sort of the Sound of Music thingy with my arms the other day. Y'know, ust taking in the air and sun and warmth. Y'know.

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy 03-23-2003 06:37 PM

Daydream, mostly, is what I do that's LotR-ish. Sometimes, I like to go outside and take in the scenery (especially during autumn and spring, which are the best times of the year to do such things). My friend and I have a co-authored "fanfiction" of sorts going on that always manages to cheer me up if I feel a bit down. That's about it, basically.

VanimaEdhel 03-27-2003 08:35 AM

Too bad you guys don't all live with me. You missed me running around in the rain without a coat last night, galloping around my yard, yelling "Noro lim, Asfaloth!" What can I say? It's the first time I've seen rain in New York since last autumn. I was very happy! Then I began singing in Elvish...too bad my parents didn't tape it for you guys. Well, more like luckily...luckily they didn't see me either.

Meela 03-27-2003 01:46 PM

yes, somewhere there is a thread on nancing. i know, cos i shared my vast knowledge of nancing there (im a professional nancer).

i love looking at the stars.

*glances down at outfit*

my eowyn sleeves are so pretty... *sighs happily*

i have arwen hair. but sometimes it looks like aragorn's hair.

Bekah 04-20-2003 11:26 PM

I haven't visited BD in a while.

I like listening to the LOTR soundtracks and dancing to them, mostly.

No one has posted here for a bit, so I thought that I'd revive this thread.
