Parallells....

Today I realized something (or maybe I dreamed it up).
I work surrounded by small children (though granted more than 13), and I actively take care of two different gardens. No, I don't think I'm turning into Sam or anything like that, but hey...it's kind of fun to think I'm a little bit like him, if you understand my meaning.
How about you? Any LOTR character/theme/place parallels in your life?

Aragorn: "Sam, do you know what Kingsfoil is?"
Sam: "That's a weed! "
(Yeah, I know, that particular instance didn't happen that way in the book. Nevertheless, I thought it was kinda cute/funny that Gandalf asked Sam of all people, and of course, Sam's response....)

NazgulNumberTen 07-11-2002 08:22 PM

well, i have a friend who has pointy ears and is freakishly good at archery...

Aldagrim Proudfoot 07-12-2002 02:16 PM

Well, I like food and bushy hair and I have hair on my feet. (no really!) But then I also like to hear about the world so I guess I'm a Bree hobbit (a 5'11" Bree hobbit!)

NazgulNumberTen 07-12-2002 02:23 PM

i have hairy feet too...

Gimli Son Of Gloin 07-12-2002 03:16 PM

I always get Gimli on personality tests "Which LOTR caracter are you?".

Samwise 07-12-2002 03:50 PM

Really, Gimli? Man...I usually have to try two or three times before I get Sam. Usually I get Elrond on the first try. What that means, I don't now...

Another parallel for me...I'm really fond of mushrooms....

Last weekend I tried to walk barefoot in the forest. My sandals seemed no good for such a walk. But my poor feet were even worse.
Now I know I am no hobbit!

*Varda* 07-12-2002 04:52 PM

Uhh...I like stars? And Varda is Queen Of The Stars? About the only parallel I can think of. And coincidentally my elf name also happened to be Vardathangiel

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-12-2002 09:17 PM

Hm, well let's see. I don't have hairy feet (thank God!) and I don't like mushrooms-not a hobbit. I don't really have pointy ears....not really, but I never did archery but I want to! And I'm not that tall though. Damn, I wanted to be an elf! But I do like the stars too! And a few other things Hehe. And I guess I'm like some of the characters, but I won't go into detail. I'll spare you all from that!

Catherine 07-12-2002 09:39 PM

LEts see I do love mushrooms and my brother has really pointy ears and my friend has hairy feet.

NazgulNumberTen 07-14-2002 09:13 AM

i also like to walk barefoot outside...

Anarya SilverBranch 07-14-2002 09:22 AM

I enjoy making staffs and love to travel and help people and such. Would that make me sort of like a istari?

Aldagrim Proudfoot 07-14-2002 01:54 PM

I like mushrooms too. And I go barefoot a lot. In fact, I'm barefoot right now!

Samwise 07-14-2002 10:30 PM

LOL! I am too, at the moment!
The other day, (this struck me wierd) I was helping my mother clean. I was replacing some dolls from her collection on a table, and had one in my hand with long blond hair that stood about 14" tall.
As I was taking a plastic packaging thing out of the dolls' hair, I looked at the tag that had the doll's name on it....it was

ArwenBaggins 07-25-2002 03:00 PM

im barefoot alot, like right now, love mushrooms and food.

Yeah! Im a hobbit!

The Fifth 07-25-2002 06:07 PM

I walk barefoot a lot, I like mushrooms, eat a lot, but I don't have hairy feet. So I'm somewhat like a hobbit. But, I'm indifferent, don't care about people's feelings, somewhat mean and cruel, wear black a lot, so I guess that makes me like a Ringwraith. And then sometimes I'm all wise like an Istari.

gollum*elf*pup 07-25-2002 07:17 PM

i love food. i eat like, 7 meals a day (ok, not that much, but a lot, but i never get fat) i never wear shoes. i dont like shoes. i like to kill chickens with forks. does that make me an orc? )heh heh heh j/k(

Galadrie1 07-29-2002 05:56 PM

I hate shoes, and they hate me. I've ruined two pairs of sandals in the last five days (don't ask) and socks are my worst enemies. I don't like mushrooms, though, and I don't eat too much...so I guess I'm not a hobbit! I like to think I'm sort of elvish... I can sing well (or so i've been told), and love music (playing and listening).. but, i'm short and have very round ears ( ) and a round face, and... i am over-all very round, i suppose ( ) so..i guess i'm not like an elf...

actually, i think i'm more Gollum-ish than anything else... I get very possesive over stuff and I'm not the..uh.. most agreeable person i know (heh heh).. so.. yeah

Thus concludes the insane ramblings of me

i only wear socks when i want to slide on the new hard-wood floor...

Lady_Báin 08-02-2002 01:27 PM

i keep to myself alot and i live in a tremendous underground city (well that last part was a lie) i am average height so i think myself to be a dwarf (though i don't have facial hair ) i hate shoes I have an extremely sharp hatchet, i wish i had a shirt of mail. I'm am slightly selfish , THOUGH IT IS A PROPER WAY FOR A DWARF TO ACT!!

ElfEarz 08-02-2002 05:13 PM

some 1 already said this about their friend (wishes she knew how to qoute some 1) anyays i have pointy ears and i like archery (im not too bad, not great tho) and my favorite color is green, i wear alot of it. and alot of ppl tell me i look like an elf. (not just my ears) and i'm kinda tall. and i sing and write poetry. and i speak Elvish (lol i'm sure alot of ppl do)

Niphredil Baggins 08-04-2002 09:51 AM

I've only just realised whom I resemble; not Frodo, but Bilbo. I write a lot, both poetry and prose, I live alone and eat a lot, I'm studying to be a translator (of English, though: not Elvish). Also, I'm probably right now being corrupted by some evil trinket. I wish I could turn invisible to some people.

Arwen Melian 10-27-2002 07:49 PM

Just because my screen name and e-mail adrress include the words "hobittlover", it does not mean I'm a hobbit. I'm simply an elf who likes hobbits. Proof of this is I'm an artist, a poet, and I sing very well(I have a high voice also since I'm a soprano)unless I'm in front of a lot of people( I get a little shy.)I love walking through forests ( there is a patch of woods near my house) on clear autumn days.Last of all I love looking at the stars on a clear night'and can speak and write some Elvish

Diamond18 10-27-2002 08:39 PM

Well, lemme see...I'm not short, but I'm not tall. I'm not fat, but I'm not exactly thin or graceful, either. (I seem to be the epitome of medium). I can sing soprano, but not like an elf. I dislike mushrooms... Dang it all, that rules out hobbits or elves. But, oh wait, I do not like to travel, not at all. I prefer staying home with a book or at my computer writing, so I guess I'm kind of like a hobbit in that respect. Bilbo, Frodo, Merry and Sam anyway. (The only hobbits who ever wrote anything, it seems.)

Arwen1858 10-27-2002 08:46 PM

I'm an elf!! I may be a bit on the short side, and I don't have pointy ers, but I'm still an elf. I hate mushrooms, so that rules out hobbits I also hate shoes except some sandal(that's close to being barefoot) and some boots. I usually go barefoot, except for when my feet are cold, then I wear socks. I guess elves go barefoot sometimes, cuz I have a picture of Arwen barefoot. When I take personality tests, I'm usually Legolas. I love singing, and I love being out in the woods! I'm an elf
Arwen

Arwen Melian 10-27-2002 08:56 PM

i guess you can say your in between everything, Diamond. You're a mixture of many races.

Arwen Melian 10-27-2002 08:58 PM

Hey arwen, I guess we have that much in common.

Arwen1858 10-27-2002 10:25 PM

oh, I forgot to mention that I desperatly want to learn archery.
Arwen

Faye Took 10-27-2002 10:40 PM

Well hmm lets see. I think I resemble Pippin (sadly). I am a fool, and can be very clusy. I practically fall down my stairs every morning before school. I do things that I'm not suppose to do like right now I'm not suppose to be online. I also resemble Aragorn. I like attacking things, like I'll jump on peoples back or I'll threaten them. If I was him I would probably barge into Cirith Ungol and start attacking all the orcs, but that would not be a wise idea (another resemblance to Pippin, I am not the least bit wise).

Arwen Imladris 10-28-2002 03:32 PM

My parents considered calling my sister Galadriel (light brown hair), Me Arwen (dark hair) And my Brother Aragorn. Pretty Scary if you ask me.

Samwise 10-28-2002 04:41 PM

Something cute and LOTR-ish that happens to me almost daily........

Hence, there's always fruit on the table; often times canteloupe or honeydew. Well, the kidlets I work with are mostly of Hispanic descent, and so have an accent. So, when I'm sitting at the table I'll often hear "Por favor, de melon." only they don't say "melon", they say "MELLON"! I want to bust up laughing every time, but no one would get it.

VanimaEdhel 10-28-2002 06:39 PM

I'm 5'10" and blonde with grey-blue eyes and, if my ears were 1/32 of an inch less bent than they are, then I'd have full Elf-ears. So, I guess I look like an Elf of sorts...

Elenna 10-28-2002 06:52 PM

I think I am part-elven.

I have pointy ears, I have been described as fair and graceful, I love to sing, dance, and tell stories, I love the forest, I am good at archery, I can communicate with animals (come with me to the zoo sometime. I have a serious bond with the orangutan.), and I speak Elvish.

The only thing is, I'm short. I guess that's my mortal blood asserting itself.

Kalimac 10-29-2002 12:11 AM

Nice topic . I do insurance adjusting (for the moment - I'm seriously considering quitting outright, because it's literally giving me an ulcer). Want to know who I talk to? In addition to many decent, normal members of the Race of Men, there are many, many Orcs and Orc-minded ("to whom only the squalid sounds strong") - unfortunately they know that if they get upset, they can insult my education, morality, intelligence etc. with impunity because thanks to workplace codes I cannot answer them back in like manner. More than once I've felt like Pippin, being smacked around by an Orc (in a metaphorical sense, of course). And I've developed a tendency to mutter "But you have chosen the way - of - PAIN!!" after a particuarly nasty person has hung up. Since you can bet that I'm going to be demanding every last receipt that he has, thanks to his rudeness .

TolkienGurl 10-30-2002 02:17 PM

I don't have hairy feet, I'm not short, I hate mushrooms, and yet I feel like a hobbit. It's really hard to explain. And I'm really glad I'm not like an Elf. I don't like Elves. Or Dwarves. No offense to anyone, though.

Mintyztwin 11-02-2002 11:52 PM

I'm an elf. (Heh. I hope.) Well, the name generator, and character tests ALL say I'm an elf, or most like Legolas. (Who IS an elf. I'm sure no one knew that. )

I'm tall. (Not compared to the rest of my fam, though.) Looooooooooooong blonde (?) hair. (It's kinda dark-blonde-brown-red.) Blue eyes. Or grey. Depending on the day, and who you ask. And I sing really well, and waaaaaaay high. (I'm humble too! Just kidding. I actually take voice lessons, and am truly pretty ok.)

Also, whenever there is a full moon, or even just stars, (as long as it's not too freaky) I have this incredible urge to go dance and sing in the night. I can also compose poems and elvish-sounding songs on the spot. (Heh heh heh.)

I'm learning elvish. (I really DO NOT have time for it! ) and am nagging my father to teach me archery. (I tried it a long time ago and liked it.)

I can walk and make absolutly no sound. And I always feel most at home in the forest with the animals.

The only thing non-elvish about me is I like cats. And I can't run for a loooooong time, 'cause of knee problems.

But I really want to be an elf!!! And you can't tell my ears aren't pointy 'cause my hair covers them! Heh heh.

Arwen Melian 11-03-2002 11:50 AM

Actually liking cats is sort of elvish. Orlando bloom said that Legolas is like a cat because of his movements. He moves and all of a sudden stops and pauses, watching(like a cat.)

Telpefalsion99 11-03-2002 12:04 PM

Well I have pointy ears, I pretty good at archery, I always get Legolas on the Personality test, I like the stars, I am tall, fast, and pretty light. I guess I'm an Elf.

Mintyztwin 11-03-2002 12:05 PM

That was Orlando Bloom, not Legolas. I thought that in the Sil it said that the Eldar didn't like cats because of the cats that served Morgoth. I'm pretty sure that's what it said. Right?

Arwen Melian 11-03-2002 05:16 PM

Well, you are right actually. But, if you want to be more like an elf just watch a cat and it's actions( but don't start licking yourself...that would be scary.
