Honoring Those Forgotten

Hail fellow! Well Met, and Mae Govannen! We are gathered here today to honor those wonderful characters that people just seem to forget about.

To give thanks to all of those wonderous beings, let us dedicate this thread to praising the forgotten heroes.

Our first forgotten character is one of my personal favorites...BEORN the Skin changer!!!

Everyone- Who?

Just as I suspected. You have forgotten the great character who helped the dwarves and Bilbo get through Mirkwood, and fought in the Battle of Five Armies! Get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness!!!!!!

Ok, so here's how this goes. There's a whole boatload of great characters out there that people forget about. Let's give them what they deserve. Present Beorn with a gift, offer a speech, or do whatever you like to show the world how much you care about everyone's favorite bear guy. Maybe you could present your own favorite but forgotten character, and let everyone else shower them with praise. (No Meela, Denethor isn't a forgotten character.)

Gooooooooo BEORN!!!

"The Beorn Identity", coming to a theatre near you!

Meela 08-18-2003 12:23 PM

Darn

What about Bergil, Beregond's little boy? I adore him, but he's not exactly the talk of the town.

Sapphire_Flame 08-18-2003 12:32 PM

Same here, Meela.

Heh heh heh...yeah! Poor Glorfindel...

What about Ghan-buri-Ghan? "I count many things; stars in sky, leaves on trees, men in the dark" Poor thing's always forgotten. He talked like a caveman and looked like...a short, stumpy...Neanderthal...

We love him, don't we?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 08-18-2003 01:24 PM

We can't possibly forget our all-time favourite Elven siblings, Elladan and Elrohir!

*sees everyone's look of "Duhhh?"*

You know, Elrond's twins!

"Duhhh?"

Ehm...never mind. At least the Barrow-Downers know what I'm talking about, eh guys?

Amarantha_Daisy 08-18-2003 01:46 PM

Friends, I come bearing gifts for those who are oft...not mentioned...

Beorn, I present thee with $500 towards your "Save the Bears" foundation.

For Bergil, a giant neon sign to hang around your neck, saying "I am here, and at least Pippin remembers me!"

For Glorfindel, a "Save Your Own Frodo" kit, complete with step-by-step instructions on how NOT to be left out of a movie.

For Ghan-buri-Ghan, English lessons and a spear, for killing those saber-toothed tigers

And for Elladan and Elrohir, name tags, so that you will be recognised in the Council of Elrond.

Almighty forgotten characters! May your names go down in history amoung those who...have way too much spare time on thier hands and decide to go through the books remembering you...

I forgot to mention the twins! *grovels in an apologetic manner* They are absolute favorites of mine, especially Elrohir. Yay for the twins!!!

And let us not forget the Baddies: Snaga (in all his appearances...) and those two orcs Frodo and Sam see when crossing Gorgoroth. Any more?

Cinderella 08-18-2003 03:51 PM

Mablung and Damrod are severly overlooked also...didn't that night in Ithilien mean anything to you Frodo? Sam? *whimpers*

peonydeepdelver 08-18-2003 04:35 PM

How could anyone forget the most ignored yet beloved hobbit of all: Nob!

Meneltarmacil 08-18-2003 04:51 PM

I give a toast to all the Dwarves in The Hobbit... some of the kindest and yet overlooked Dwarves in Middle Earth!

Especially worthy of recognition are Balin, Dori, Gloin... and who could forget Bombur? Dwarves are many times called gruff and unfriendly, but these stand out as the kindest Dwarves I have ever known. It's really a shame they haven't been mentioned much after The Hobbit. They deserve recognition for their deeds.

Yay for Nob! And Bob!

What about Gildor? He is often forgotten, but not often forgotten is his line: "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger."

All hail Gildor, my favorite elf!

ElenCala Isil 08-18-2003 07:33 PM

what about Fatty Bolger?! He was in frodo's new house when the nazgûl attacked... and Old man Willow! (at least movie-wise anywho)

Cinderella 08-19-2003 04:00 PM

Poor Fatty... how could he have known that dressing up like Frodo would be a BAD idea???

Cinderella 08-19-2003 05:30 PM

Welcome to the Downs Eowyn... And btw It was Ioreth

Yavanna228 08-19-2003 06:01 PM

My vote goes to Quickbeam. He was a cheery soul, even if he was a bit hasty. Also, poor, dear Glorfindel and Fatty Bolger. Such a shame that they should be 'forgotten'. But then again, Glorfindel hasn't been forgotten on this forum. Many, many topics have been raised about him! Hurrah!
Peace

I could never forget my two favorite elves!!

And Farmer Maggot...He was able to get Frodo, Sam & Pippin to the Ferry in safety, plus he gave them the huge basket of mushrooms!

And let's not forget Halbarad, the only Ranger besides Aragorn with a name.

Eowyn_Wildfire 08-19-2003 10:40 PM

thanx i did mean i Ioreth

the guy who be short 08-20-2003 06:37 AM

Radagast RADAGAST RADAGAST.
Why does everybody forget him? Why? Without him, Gandy would not have been able to lodge with Beorn, the dwarves quest would fail, the ring would never get to Frodo because Bilbo would die of starvation, Sauron would rule. And people forget HIM!

ElenCala Isil 08-20-2003 11:07 AM

Ahhh! Yes! Poor Radagast, so forgotten.. at least we've remembered him! *sends Radagast a wafer of Lembas* Huzzah for Radagast, and all the other no-longer-forgotten!

ElenCala Isil 08-21-2003 09:46 AM

What about the Eagles? Gwaihir, and his brother Landroval... Not to mention Meneldur the swift...

Amarantha_Daisy 08-21-2003 02:20 PM

Oooo, yeah! Radagast! If it weren't for him, what would become of our dear Middle-Earth?!

Radagast, dear Radagast. He may not have had a big part overall but what he did was important. He *did* save Gandalf's life. Were it not for him, where would everyone be now? Death and destruction in the hands of Sauron, that's where! Hurrah for Radagast! *cheers* *confetti* *champagne*

You all think too highly of the good guys.

perhaps.. -.^ but I think just about everyone has forgotten about Theoden's minstrel, Gléowine..

peonydeepdelver 08-22-2003 04:51 PM

And how could we forget old Bill Ferny, and his mangy starved friend Bill the pony?

Then there's the squinted-eyed Southerner with no name...

Lord of Angmar 08-23-2003 09:00 AM

I don't hear Elfhelm or Erkenbrand spoken of much anymore!

Three cheers for Gleowine for his lovely dirge!

peonydeepdelver 08-23-2003 09:08 AM

And three more cheers for Mr. Cotton and the Gaffer! Oi!

Kaiserin 08-23-2003 07:44 PM

Nobody has yet mentioned Carc and Roac, and poor Deagol.

Alatáriël Lossëhelin 08-24-2003 07:22 PM

No one ever talks about Círdan, and yet it was he who kept the Havens open so that the Elves could continue to journey to Valinor. He also gave Narya to Gandalf when he first arrived in Middle-Earth.

And don't forget Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth; Forlong the Fat of Lossarnach; Celebrían wife of Elrond; Thranduil father of Legolas; Rúmil and Orophin, brothers of Haldir; Lobelia Sackville-Baggins; Robin Smallburrow the Shirriff; and Will Whitfoot the Mayor. All great characters who were important in their own way, but who are destined to remain unknown to those who haven't read the books.

Maegaladiel 08-24-2003 10:34 PM

And let's not forget Bard! YAY BARD! You go, dragon slayer man of power! Bard-bard-bard-bard-bard, HEY!

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-25-2003 06:56 AM

I was going to write my favorite forgotten character... but while trying to do three or four things at once, I managed to forget who I wanted to honor!!!!! Isn't that horrible? I can't even remember the race, gender... Oh... I remembered gender... it's male... and he was actually an important character... maybe it'll come to me later as I'm doing laundry or something.

Daisy Brambleburr 08-30-2003 02:29 PM

I am going to do a Galadriel and present gifts to my favorite forgotten characters.

Firstly, I come to Ioreth. Ioreth, I present you with a megaphone so that more people will be able to hear your words of infinite wisdom. Also, I give to you a copy of heat magazine, to feed your hunger for gossip suitably.

For you, Bard I have a quiver of arrows so that you may shoot many more evil things. May they serve you well!

Most honorable and esteemed Farmer Maggot, I give to you a pink fluffy poodle so that you may have more variety within your pack of dogs. Also, an electric fence and two rolls of barbed wire to keep unruly hobbits from your crop.

And last, but most certainly not least, I come to Quickbeam. Quickbeam, I have for you a pack of cards that you may amuse yourself with when you find your fellow Ents are being particulary slow. May you use them wisely!

What fun!

Tinuviel of Denton 08-30-2003 11:31 PM

No one has yet mention Daeron, Thingol's minstrel. He was a little misguided, but hey, he was in love.

And, while on the subject of the Silmarillion, what about Tar-Miriel? And Elros? And Earendil? And the Valar?

And lets not forget the ponies!!!
Sharp Ears, Wise Nose, Swish Tail, Bumpkin, White Socks, and of course Fatty Lumpkin...
And Asfaloth!!! WHO WAS GLORFINDEL'S! NOT ARWENS! Horse thief...and what of Beorn's little creatures? Them too! And the Cats of Beruthiel...little horrors...and Huan!! HUAN AND DRAUGLUIN!!! NOBODY EVER REMEMBERS HUAN!! And I better shut up now, before I get into a rant....

Finwe 09-02-2003 06:32 PM

We're forgetting Alatar and Pallando. Without them, Saruman would probably have been stopped from doing all the evil things that he did, resulting in a completely different plot line, and Sauron's eventual conquest of all Middle-earth!!!!!!
