LOTR Cookies and Cereal?????

On my long and perilous journey to find a father's day card at my local Wal-Mart, I happened upon a box of cookies. Not any cookies mind you, these were special. They were Lord of the Rings cookies(chocolate chip) and each box contained one of four possible stickers for you to collect. Seeing as they were only a dollar, I bought one and my sticker was of a distressed looking Frodo. Then, it came to my attention from a friend that LOTR cereal actually exists. And you will never guess what it is shaped like...that's right: rings. Wow, cheerios but with a new name. Has anyone here actually seen this cereal or the cookies? Does anyone else think that J.R.R Tolkien is never going to stop spinning in his grave?

Novnarwen 06-15-2003 11:43 AM

Cereal, is that awful or what??

Just checking...

So far all I have seen is Lotr sweets. But cookies sound wonderful! (I have a cookie obsession )

Brinniel 06-15-2003 03:18 PM

I haven't seen these products yet, though perhaps one day I will. The cereal sounds creative, even though I don't eat cereal. As for cookies, they'd have to be the right brand. I'd probably end up buying them just for the stickers, anyways.

I once ate an Aragorn chocolate bar. It had peanut butter in it.

hobbit punk 06-15-2003 08:18 PM

The stickers are pretty cool..I have Frodo and Eowyn. You only have four choices though, Aragorn, Eowyn, Frodo and Saruman. But the Frodo and Aragorn stickers rock! And I have already scarfed half the box tonight so the cookies are pretty enjoyable.

Finwe 06-15-2003 08:43 PM

I really think it's horrible how much the Professor's works have been commercialized. I will always hate it.

Novnarwen 06-16-2003 06:38 AM

Okey, then.. I think it's quite stupid... Coockies sound okey, but cereal??
hmm... It just doesn't feel right. It's like, no one in Middle-earth eats cereal... (If that made any sense..)

My, ring cereal? Sounds extremely crunchy.
Geeze, this reminds me of the Star Wars craze. Oh well, more chance to add more stuff to my LOTR collection.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 06-16-2003 03:19 PM

I saw the chocolate bars. And the gummies. (They were Aragorn gummies) But cookies? No way!

Shy Hobbit 06-16-2003 07:05 PM

If it's a product like the cookies, that comes with something like stickers, action figures, movie tickets, etc I'm fine with it. Sort of. But if the LotR product itself is edible, I'll turn red with embarassment and shame All the Spiderman/Lion King cereals and junk are bad enough. This is kind of off topic but...
Has everyone seen the new LOTR party supplies that you can eat your Cookies and Cereal on.
LOTR Party Supplies
They will be avaliable at Hallmark in October

Gosh you lucky people. Us in the United States get none of the candy, cookies or anything like that. If we want any of it we have to buy it on ebay. I have never seen it in any stores around my town, I have only seen it on the internet.

Does anyone have a picture of this box of LOTR cookies, and a box of the cereal?
I would love to see it

Well, I didn't buy the chocolate bar at a local store. My sister ordered me Nenya for Christmas and the chocolate bar happened to come with it.

The party supplies isn't so bad, I suppose. I'm just scratching my head over where it says "Appeals to boys ages 6-9." I don't know any boys that age who have even seen the movie.

Will someone, anyone, SHOOT the people who come up with these things!? How, I ask you, can we get people to take LotR seriously when this sort of thing happens? They are already comparing it to, oh the horror, Harry Potter! This is ridiculous!

I am calm, I really am.

Luinalatawen 06-17-2003 11:08 PM

Ha ha ha! This is so funny, But at the same time, it's very disturbing. I can understand Harry Potter stuff because JK Rowling and her works are new and not as serious as Tolkien's, AND because it's HP attracts mostly children, so things like party accessories would be a good marketing move for them. But LotR? Now c'mon, that's ridiculous!!

Where have you guys found all this odd LotR merchandise/edibles? I'd like to see that stuff in the stores, I'd probably burst out in laughter and attract strange looks from other shoppers...

Christmas and Easter are great times. I had a Christmas Lotr selection box, and a Lotr Easter Egg.

Estelyn Telcontar 06-18-2003 07:34 AM

Interestingly and inexplicably, there have been cookies called "Hobbits" in Germany for years. I have no idea why the company chose that name and whether they have the legal rights to it. The cookies themselves are simply round shaped, made with whole grain, either topped with chocolate or plain. They taste pretty good, rather "healthy". There are no pictures or stickers in the package.

The chocolate surprise eggs are definitely the best LotR product to be had here. The figurines that are inside some of them (and you don't know which ones, so you have to buy a lot of them!) are beautiful and quite detailed, though they are small, about 2 1/2 inches high. I have collected all of them so far and hope the next series will be available in the autumn before the next movie is released.

dragoneyes 06-18-2003 03:11 PM

Ther are LotR eggs? I haven't seen then, but I have seen little gummy rings (seen, and eaten) and some other gummy things called 'Fruits of the Shire' though my friend and I spent a while debating how a dagger (which is one of the shapes) can be classed as a fruit.

Meela 06-18-2003 03:19 PM

I love fruits of the Shire! I had them while watching TTT and my favourite pasttime was to stick an eye of Sauron over my own eye.

Tinuviel of Denton 06-18-2003 05:10 PM

Why am I not surprised, Meela?

Duncariel 06-18-2003 05:41 PM

Ah Lord, will it never end? The Valentines were bad enough!

Luinalatawen 06-18-2003 08:09 PM

I haven't seen any of this stuff... ANY of it! i really wish I had, though. It all sounds so, well, interesting. Funny interesting.

Novnarwen 06-19-2003 05:07 AM

I haven't seen anything of that LOTR candy, cookies and cereal you are talking about... It must bee you greedy americans keeping the LOTR candy for yourselves...

Only joking...

I think it's more something about where I live... This cold freeky land never imports anything... Especially, things I would like... hmm...

So long...

Be glad! It's all an evil plot to suck you into the merchandise industry!
BEWARE!

hobbit punk 06-19-2003 05:42 PM

Greedy Americans? I am Canadian!
And it seems like every country has its own LOTR food. Like in Canada we have the cookies and cereal, the US seems to have candy and England and Europe seem to have chocolate bars and such. But each country has never heard or seen of the other ones. I actually only found out about the cookies from a friend and I have never actually seen the cereal. The cookies are only a dollar a box here and they are on Ebay for $25! I think it is ridiculous but kinda funny. What bugs me is the fact that some people may forget that there even are books. But at least we won't.

TealDude4 06-20-2003 12:47 PM

Well, at least the commercialisim(sp?) for LotR isn't all that bad. Think about it. What would it be like to wake up and eat a bowl of Lembas Crunch.

dragoneyes 06-20-2003 06:33 PM

England and Europe? Is England not a part of Europe? I suppose that could be debatable. Anyway, I'm from England and I've not seen the chocolate bars, in fact, I didn't know there were any. Maybe I should go bug the shop owner, he only gets the gummy things and I prefer chocolate. Either that or I could go shopping once in a while.

Yes, the Kinder surprise eggs, oh how I wish they sold those in the U.S.. When I bought one in Europe while I was on vacation, all I got was a little kangaroo (I did not buy one of the LOTR themed ones because they were not avaliable when I was there ). After I got home and saw all the pictures of the LOTR little figures, oh how I wished I had gone there during the winter or fall.

If any of the Europeans want to send me some of those around the holidays I would be greatly appreciative. I would sent money (darn, too bad I cashed in all my Euros)

Oh and truely in the U.S they don't sell the candy or the food. I have never seen it anywhere. And it is not like New Line has any marketing deals with candy makers, the only marketing deal that they had last year was with a cell phone company So we don't get any special edition Hershey bars with the charaters on them or anything like that. The candy seems to be just an international thing. All we get is party supplies
