Boromir the Disco King?

I'm not sure where this fits, but ME mayhem seems to be the only place for a question like this.

Will somebody please explain to me what "Do the wave for Boromir the Disco King" means?
I keep seeing it, but can't find an explanation for it.

Ok, cheak out the 'make your own crazy sceen with pics' thread for the full insanity, but in a nut shell:
The fine people at the downs decided to have a disco contest. Boromir won, and is the disco king. Eowyn is the disco queen and Gollem is the disco thing. I think that does it, but there's a whole bunch of new titles that are somewhat confusing like Gandalf the disco Istari (who's a really good brake dancer) and Haldir the disco king of the elves, and other things, and I'm not that smart so cheak out the thread. Yeah, I never got it either (mostly 'cause I'm a forum newbie). Glad someone explained it.

Someone's got the Boromir disco king sequence as their avatar as well...
I luv it...

Oddwen 04-28-2003 05:07 AM

Two or three people have it as avatars, actually! And at last count 8 with sigs...thank you Rynoah!

GaladrieloftheOlden 04-28-2003 05:40 AM

Yes, the "Do the Wave!" thing made the already quite, ahem, interesting thread even more exciting

Anything but Arwen 04-28-2003 06:49 AM

I picked it up off the Guestbook....

The whole thing started with Rynoah. She put up a scene where Boromir let out the secret that Aragorn was taking Disco lessons. (Pg. 2)

And then Oddwen introduced the idea that Boromir may in fact be the Disco King. It was Rosie who first said "Do the wave for Boromir the Disco King", which really upset Sam. (Pg. 2)

Then there is another Oddwen installment of the Boromir Disco King on page 3, a little more than half way down. And another a bit further down where Frodo tries to buy his way into being Disco King. (Oddwen was really on a roll!)

Then on page 4 Pippin thought Boromir wasn't as good as he, but then discovered he was much better, which left him very depressed.

In between scenes, there was some discussion about doing the wave for Boromir generating.

Page 5 was kind of quiet, but it's page 6 when all insanity brakes loose. I decided to put Gandalf on the quest to learn to Disco. After he learned from "the most unlikely person imaginable" he challenged Boromir to a contest...which took up most of page 6, and pretty much all of 7 and 8, and a lot of discussion and scenes on page 9. There was even voting involved, and Boromir won by an overwhelming majority.

Well, there you have it. You'll just have to check it out for yourselves to REALLY understand the fun we all had.

Yer welcome. Fer what?

As for the question: just look at Boromir's moves! None can dethrone him, so DO THE WAVE! *does the wave*

Trippo The Hippo 04-28-2003 12:39 PM

i am new to the boromir discoeing thing but i read like the whole thing and think its hilarious may i join right in and do the wave

Airehiriel 04-28-2003 12:41 PM

ANYONE can do the wave...just as long as they love Boromir.

And you can join in on creating scenes, too!

Trippo The Hippo 04-28-2003 12:44 PM

cool thanks i did the wave for boromir the disco king and got my mom and sister to give me odd looks

Arafangwen 04-28-2003 01:48 PM

I watched the whole thread from the early on but I never jioned in. I could never pick myself up of the ground in my laughter to be able to post. I don't think of the funniest stuff anyways.....

Katherine712 04-28-2003 03:43 PM

Thanks for explaing! I am now proudly doing the wave for Boromir the Disco King.
(Although you may notice in my sig, I only do the wave for Boromir...and ok perhaps Gollum... maybe!)

Oddwen 04-28-2003 06:09 PM

For that *busts a move* scene. The "Do the Wave!" comment came into my head just then, 'cuz I didn't like the idea of Aragorn beating him out, and who really would you not think of disco-ing? Boromir, of course! So proud, so snooty, he was a perfect stooge!

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy 04-28-2003 06:41 PM

*grins* You're most verily welcome, yea, verily. I saw the picture of Aragorn and I suddenly had images of John Travolta in my head, so it only seemed the natural thing to do.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 04-28-2003 07:01 PM

Of course we had a lot of fun! And of course Boromir won by a landslide! What else could have happened? Boromir is Disco King! Do the Wave!

Unfortunately, Tippo, that is one of the hazzards of hanging out on the Downs.

I love hearing how the first one's started out! I love hearing the inspiration of a story, thanks Oddwen and Rynoah. It's like knowing a really good secret.

Everdawn 04-29-2003 01:23 AM

Hey what the hell! i think ill put DO the wave on the bottom of my sig too!...

Nice sig, Anything but arwen.. its nice for the old members of the guestbook to remember out beloved topic...

Everdawn 04-29-2003 01:28 AM

It is. That's why I love movie commentary so much. It's also the reason I gave my friend one of my stories with "author commentary" written on the backs of the pages.

DayVampyre 04-29-2003 05:29 PM

Well thank you all so very much, you've all given Gondorian Disco Fever!

There goes my evil persona, right out the window, oh well.

**proceeds in wave**

Oddwen 04-29-2003 05:35 PM

John Travolta???!? Yuck! Thank Eru I've not seen Saturday Night Fever nor Grease, only Phenomenon.
Gondorian Disco Fever? Hmm, an interesting name.

DayVampyre 04-29-2003 05:54 PM

eh, I'm a survivor from Grease, it was pretty funny, as in I made fun of it.

I wonder if John-Boy ever watches that flick and gets a good chuckle out of it?

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy 04-29-2003 06:48 PM

Truthfully, I haven't seen either movie, but they're "classics", so I've heard stories.

Trippo The Hippo 04-30-2003 08:23 AM

can anyone tell me how we ave digressed to john travolta and grease

GaladrieloftheOlden 04-30-2003 08:32 AM

No idea. But since we have, we may as well proceed... eh, I'm a survivor from Grease, it was pretty funny, as in I made fun of it. Lol. There was some funny competition... *does the wave for Galadriel the should-be disco queen* *bumps off Eowyn*

Silmarien 04-30-2003 10:24 PM

Éowyn was democraticaly elected so you should retract that statement or all Mordor might break loose!

ahem, sorry but I did write her entry form

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy 05-01-2003 12:26 AM

I'm afraid the John Travolta detour was my fault:
