Real-life Treebeard (honestly!)

Well, I decided to post this here because it is not a book topic.
I thought you would all like to see this.
I took this pic at the Michigan Renaissance Festival this year... some guy actually dressed up as an Ent!
Have any of you seen anyone dressed up as a LOTR character at a Faire???

Honey, they all look like LOTR characters to me! That has got to be the best costume I've seen, though. (It is a costume, right?)

I've been to the Michigan Renaissance Faire once, and it was great! Much better than the Ohio Faire.

Neferchoirwen 10-04-2002 01:16 AM

*screeches in delight*

that so cool! I wonder how he made the costume? Looks like he's on stilts or something.

red 10-04-2002 10:00 AM

Tigerlily, did you see the Ded Bob Sho? Bob rocks!

Eruwen 10-04-2002 12:26 PM

Omg. That is funny. I have actually never have seen anyone dressed up as anything from LOTR before. But I bet I will come Halloween.

But that guy looks so real! And how did he get it to look alot like the actual thing? Whoa. That is cool.

Tigerlily Gamgee 10-04-2002 02:36 PM

I never got to see Dead Bob
He was not there this year on the same weekend as me... perhaps next year...

The Ent costume is kinda like the giraffe costumes in the Broadway production of The Lion King (anyone know what I am referring to). Two tall stilts attached to the legs and then additional stilts (for balance) to be held on the arms.
As for making it look so real... anything is possible when you use your imagination!

gollum*elf*pup 10-04-2002 02:44 PM

Woah, that is a freaky costume!!! I'm scared!!! Scary but very cool...

Aylwen Dreamsong 10-04-2002 05:24 PM

That is such a cool picture! Michigan!?!?!? Most of my mom's side of the family lives in MIchigan, except for my mom and any other relatives in the Navy. Wow!! Stilt's right? Well, at the Maryland Ren-Fest, there was a guy who dressed as a hobbit, he was a little boy, with naturally curly hair, and when I saw him I thuoght in my mind "Oh my gosh, is that Frodo?" and the boy's mom (who reminded me greatly of Eowyn...hmm) told me the eight year old was always asked if he was dress-rehearsing for Halloween (since loads of kids will dress as LotR characters). The Ren-Fest is one of my favorite fall things to go to...

Wow thats really creative! I could never think of anyway to make a Ent costume. The best idea for how to get hobbit feet hair was by getting yarn an glueing it on your feet with a glue stick! It works! I went to a lotr freak party with Collette, Thengise, and Ainabeleth (who hosted it) and none of it came off! Plus its fun!

*nevquesseiel* 10-06-2002 07:50 AM

wow... i dont reckon theyll even get that close to the real thing in the movies.... lol thats some costume! i luv it! lol

VanimaEdhel 10-08-2002 05:23 PM

That's really cool...I wanna meet him...hey! He had the guts to dress up like an Ent: I wanna meet him!

I mean: I'd dress up like Galadriel, but...that's about as far as I would go...oh: and I dressed up in a sheet on the Ides of March last school year (and "killed" Caesar (a.k.a. my friend Erin) on the library steps...with plastic spoons...), but that's about as far as I'd go...

Tigerlily Gamgee 10-08-2002 09:44 PM

I don't think it's that he "had the guts" to dress up like an Ent... he worked there.
There were little places in the arms of the costume to donate money...
Ahhh, shoot, I just ruined it all for everybody..... sorry
He still looks cool!

Sign reading:"Treebeard for hire" (not really, but can you imagine someone on the street that was doing that???) OK, dumb I know...

Luinsewiel 01-02-2003 06:24 PM

Imagine seeing that walking past you down the street.

That must be a lonely fellow that probably needs help so we shouldn't make fun out of him.

I'm sorry, I in no way meant for my comment to be offensive toward anyone, least of all the person. I was just saying that I would look twice if I saw someone dressed as an ent coming down the street towards me. I'm really sorry if it sounded mean I really didn't mean for it to.

Sindafalathiel 01-05-2003 05:13 PM

If I saw that guy, I'd probably blink once or twice, then I'd get scared..And think I'd been transported somehow to middle earth...

Inderjit Sanghera 01-23-2003 08:28 AM

My ,gosh the lengths people go to to dress up as trees.

Mintyztwin 01-23-2003 07:27 PM

Wow, that is way cool. I can only imagine how much work that was . . .

Wanna know what's sad? If I dressed up as a LotR character and went to school, no one would recognize me. At least only a very few people. *sigh*

Hirilaelin 01-23-2003 08:19 PM

Wow, that is honestly amazing. I have only dressed up as an elf. (Even glued my ears into points with superglue though!) Maybe I could be an entwife for next Halloween! THAT would get me some remarks! lol Anyway, QUITE amazing and cool.

I saw the Ent at the Mich Ren-fest! I love going there! It's so fun! I can't wait to go again this year! I would spend every weekend there if I could afford it, heck, I would travel around with them if I could!

Nice ent. I dressed as Eowyn once when I went to see TTT at the cinema. I haven't been to any fayres.

Ava 06-03-2003 03:37 PM

Now this I didn't actually see, but I heard about: this guy in my homeroom last year, evidently he dressed up as someone to go to the opening of FotR...he was going to wear the outfit to school but he decided against it. I didn't see it, but all I know is something about using 20 rolls of tin foil to make chain mail. I can only imagine. o_O I'm not sure who he dressed up as, though. Someone with chain mail...

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 06-03-2003 04:51 PM

My corner of M-E doesn't have Faires. GRR! AND I'M IN CANADA! FAIRES, DARN YOU!

I am dressing up as a hobbit for Halloween, though. We should all try and get pictures of our costumes and put em on here!

Niluial 06-07-2003 04:05 PM

Wow.. that’s so cool. I would love to find out how he made that outfit.. a couple of branches...stilts and leaves

Lindril Arvilya 06-09-2003 04:01 PM

I did dress up as an Elf for TTT exhibit. And my mom is making me an Eowyn dress for RotK! Yay! Uhh... this dress:
