The Return of the Lion King?

A strange concept popped into my strange head last night: The story of Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings is so much like the Lion King! Here's a little comparison if you don't know what I'm talking about:

Aragorn- Simba. He's the descendant of a king, perhaps once he would have been proud to be one; but now he's ashamed of himself and his bloodline, and he can never go back to Gondor/Pride Rock to reclaim his place as king!

Arwen- Nala. She encourages Aragorn to retain his rightful place and make his daddy proud!

Denethor- Scar. He claims lordship over Gondor and what should be Aragorn's, but he just makes it worse- the people are FAILING!
Boromir- Kovu. He TRIES to avenge his papa, but he can't... resist... THE RING! And he becomes loyal to Aragorn... before he dies, dangit.

Faramir- Other Kovu. Looks to daddy for guidance, wants to please him, but becomes loyal to Aragorn and is CONFUSED!

The One Ring- Kiara. She tempts everyone... stupid temptress...

Gilraen- Sarabi. Duh, she's Aragorn's mom. She encourages him to be the best he can be.

Arathorn- Mufasa. Sure, he was the king... but he died.

The Fellowship- Timon and Pumbaa. "King? We don't care about no stinkin' king! We just wanna have fun with our new friend! Hakuna matata!"

Now, can you imagine a little Aragorn singing "I Just Can't Wait to be King?" This makes for some pretty funny imagery. Yet I wonder whether the entire movie(s) wasn't just animalistic plagiarism off Mr. Tolkien's works...?

Have fun with this one!

Eressië Ailin 02-22-2003 04:00 PM

This is the strangest topic I've seen since the Gollum/Elmo thread... that's probably still going on...

Are you saying the Ring is Aragorn's daughter?

That just kind of popped intpo my head when I read that...

eleanor_niphredil 02-22-2003 04:05 PM

That would make Arwen the rings mother. so the ring is half-elven!

Ithaeliel 02-22-2003 04:12 PM

I guess the ring is a half-elven female, then... although that's not really the point .

I really need to brush up on my Lion King. I forgot almost all of this. We all know you can't understand LotR without understanding The Lion King!

Gorwingel 02-22-2003 09:35 PM

Well the Lion King was probably based on some things that LOTR was based on, so that is probably why they are so similar. But it mostly has similarities with the Aragorn storyline, not the other ones (there is that Monkey wiseman guy, who you could kind of say is a Gandalf like character. He is always helping the outcasts, or the supporters of the dead king, not the supporters of the new king)

Ithaeliel 02-22-2003 10:32 PM

Ha, Rafiki! I totally missed him. Good point Gorwingel; though I wonder if the people at Disney didn't completely base it off of RotK or the story of Aragorn in general. It would be an interesting research project for those who don't mind being made fun of... *hint?*

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy 02-23-2003 02:59 AM

So... Pumba and Timon would be hobbits? That's the weirdest image yet!

"What's that?"

"This, my friend, is a giant dung beetle."

"They come in giants? I'm getting one!"

Gorwingel 02-23-2003 03:22 AM

Well I think it is mostly the Aragorn storyline, because there really is not a Frodo like charater. Yes Timon and Pumba are very hobbit like, but they are not like Sam and Frodo, and the story is also lacking a Sauron type character. This is a very cool discussion, I wonder if there is any other disney movies which are similar to LOTR?

And Gollum is that stupid, drooling hyena! Canīt remeber the name... and then of course, Rafiki is Gandalf or maybe ELROND?? Zazoo... hmm... Legolas? Or no, wait, ZAZOO is Elrond!

I just canīt wait to be king/ Aragorn version coming up!

Manardariel 02-23-2003 12:22 PM

Here we go:

Aragorn:
I'm gonna be a mighty king
So enemies beware!

Elrond:
Well I've never seen a king of men
With quite so oily hair!

[Aragorn:]
I'm gonna be the main event
Like no king was before
My stubbles grow- so you obey
Or you can hear me roar!!!

[Elrond:]
Thus far, a rather uninspiring thing

[Aragorn:]
Oh, I just can't wait to be king!

[Elrond:]
You've a rather long way to go,
Young master, if you think...

[Aragorn:] No one saying do this

[Elrond:] Now when I said that I...

[Arwen:] No one saying be there

[Elrond:] For one...

[Aragorn:] No one saying stop that!

[Elrond:] (mumbling)

[Arwen:] No one saying see here

[Elrond:] Now see here!

[Aragorn:]
Free to run around all day
Free to do it my way!

[Elrond:]
I think it's time that you and I
Arranged a heart to heart

[Simba]
Kings don't need advice
From little half-elves for a start

[Elrond:]
If this is where the monarchy is headed
Count me out
Out of service, out of Arda!
I wouldn't hang about!
This child is getting wildly out of wing.

[Aragorn:]
Oh, I just can't wait to be king
Everybody look left
Everybody look right
Everywhere you look I'm
Standing in the spotlight

[Elrond:] Not yet!!!

[Council/Fellowship/Arwen:] Let every creature go for broke and sing
Let's hear it in the herd and on the wing
It's gonna be King Aragorn's finest fling

[Aragorn:]
Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
Oh, I just can't wait to be king

Lyra Greenleaf 02-23-2003 05:40 PM

oh, thats so true!

you know what, timon and pumbaa act as bate like merry and pippin do:
"If youre looking for a hunk of fat and juicy meat, eat my buddy pumba here..."
"Hey! Over here!" [lots of waving to uruk hai]

Ithaeliel 02-23-2003 09:12 PM

Hm, true... if Timon and Pumbaa can be liked to Pippin and Merry, then I suppose the Uruk-hai could be likened to hyenas. And further, Saruman could be Scar. Eek! This is too strange...

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-23-2003 10:04 PM

Wow! This is uncanny! I can just imagine, though, a mini Aragorn singing that song and Elrond being the bird-thing. He he he...Oh me Valar! You know what I just realized? Think of the Scar-Mufasa scene where Mufasa dies...now think of the Gandalf-Saruman fighting scene! Except it's switched, and M goes down not up. It reminds me a lot of it though!

[Elrond:] But you don't realize (or something like that)... < /Nitpick >

Meneltarmacil 08-05-2003 08:34 PM

heeheeheee... pretty funny. I had my own idea of having Timon and Pumbaa as Legolas and Gimli. This led to a pretty funny mental image.

ORC: Hey, who's the dwarf?
LEGOLAS: Uh oh.
GIMLI: Are you talkin' to me?
LEGOLAS: They called him a dwarf.
GIMLI: Are YOU talkin' to ME?!!
LEGOLAS: Shouldn't a' done that.
GIMLI: They call me... MISTER DWARF!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Also, looking at Lion King 2...

Zira- Lioness who really admires Scar for some reason.
If Scar is Denethor as stated earlier, then somebody who really admires Denethor for some reason... hmmmm... **coughcoughmeelacoughcough**

(note: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't chop my head off for this Meela! )

Um... Lion King songs the LOTR way

These were NOT writen by me, I hasten to add. (Not saying there bad, saying I woudn't have the brains to write them) But still...

In the book they dont act as bait, and IF the Lion King is copied from LotR, which I doubt, it would have to be from the book because the movie wasn't out then. So scrap that idea!

The songs were... interesting.

Also, the ring would be no-parts-elven, because Arwen turned mortal, and Aragorn was already a man.

Nimrothiel 01-20-2004 02:59 PM

Ah, I see, so the Ring is actually Bill Gates. I wish I could remember all of the words to "Be Prepared;" I'm working on my own little parody for that one. Does anyone want to see what I have so far? *loud chorus of "No"* You do? Alrighty then!

Be Prepared

*Mount Doom*

Sauron:
"I know that your powers of retention,
are as wet as a goblin's backside.
But thick as you are, pay attention!
My words are a matter of pride.
It's clear from your vacant expressions,
the lights are not all on upstairs.
But we're talking Rings and oppression!

*whirls towards Witch King and Nazgul #6 who fall into a lava pool*

Even YOU can't be caught unawares!

*WK and Nazgul #6 are blown sky high; "Ohww! Aaahh!"*

So be prepared for the chance of the ages,
be prepared for SENSATIONAL news!
An evil new era,
is tiptoeing neara."

Witch King: "And where do we feature?"

Sauron:
"Just listen to teacher.
I know it sounds sordid,
but you'll be rewarded,
when at last I am given my Ring!
Now my mace and ambitions are bared,
be prepared!!"

Nazgul #6: "Yeah, be prepared! We'll be prepared. For what?"

Sauron: "For the return of my Ring!"

Nazgul #6: "Why, wrong finger size?"

Sauron: "No you idiots! It was stolen, but soon it shall be returned, and the power of yours' with it!"

WK: "All right! More Rings!"

WK and Nazgul #6: "More Rings, more Rings, la la la la la la!!"

Sauron: "Idiots! There will be one Ring; MY Ring!"

Nazgul #6: "But I thought you said..."

Sauron: My Ring will control yours'! Stick with me, and you'll never have to think again!!"

WK and Nazgul #6: "Yay, alright!"

All Nazgul: "Long live the Lord of the Rings! Long live the Dark King! Long live the King! King king king king king king king!!!"

(Yes I know it seems like I'm ripping off of someone else's post, but I've been working on this for quite awhile; I just can't remember the stinking words!!)

Hehehe... this is great. Timone and Pumbaa as Merry and Pippin. Maybe in FotR anyway - I'm not seeing it towards the end of RotK. Orcs as Hyenas! That is funny. I haven't watched Lion King in forever. It used to be one of my favorite movies - one of the few I actually cried in; it was when Mufasa died. (I was only about 5 years old). Nimrothiel, the song sounds pretty good to me.

Nimrothiel 01-27-2004 09:18 AM

Thag you very buch. I've left off working on it for a while; plus I can't find the lyrics on any of the fifteen websites I've checked so far. Oh well, I'll just watch that part again tonight.
Maybe I'll start working on "Hakkuna Matata" next...

Nimrothiel 02-03-2004 03:12 PM

Changed my mind; here's another version of "I Just Can't Wait to be King"

"The Council of Elrond"
To: "I Just Can't Wait To Be King (from: Lion King)" Originally by Elton John
(Elrond):
Lord Sauron made a mighty ring
and here it is- beware!
(Gandalf):
It may appear quite harmless,
but it's evil and a snare.
(Elrond):
We've been betrayed by Saruman!
The nine are all abroad!
They rode right up, their horses drowned
Right down there at the ford.
(Gandalf):
And so the question to you all we bring:
(Both):
Tell me, who can take the One Ring?
(Elrond):
No, we can't destroy this.
No, it cannot stay here.
No Gimli, we tried that.
Now you've got a singed beard!
(Gandalf):
It can only go one way
Back into Mount Doom to stay!
(Boromir):
But Sauron's weapon is a gift
We'll use it for ourselves!
(Aaragorn):
The evil would enslave your mind.
You'd do as it compels!
(Boromir):
Hey, Gondor stands against the tide.
Alone, we keep it out!
Out of places such as Rivendell,
So shut your ranger mouth!
(Legolas):
You owe him your allegiance- he's your king!
(Elrond/Gandalf):
Tell me, who will take the One Ring?
(Elrond):
Elves are gonna hook left
Dwarves are gonna jab right
Suddenly my council
Turns into a bar fight!
(Gandalf):
But tiny furry feet our hope can bring!
He doesn't know the way or anything,
But still he's gonna stand up here and sing..
(Frodo):
Elrond, I will take the One Ring!
Sayin', I will take the One Ring!
That's right, I will taaaaaaake... the One Ring!

Sleeping Beauty 02-03-2004 03:41 PM

LOL....I like the last song. Very cute. I must find a copy of the Lion King......

That comparison with Kiara to the Ring is completely unfair. Last I checked, she was never the ultimate entity of evil capable of destroying the world. And besides, when did she ever tempt anyone with anything? She never did that!

I think a comparison to Eowyn would be more fair and more accurate. They were both living with the king of a certain land, were related to that king in some way, and they both fell in love with someone who was once looked down upon by a king (Kiara with Kovu, and Eowyn with Faramir).

Plus, both of them were unjustly suppressed and treated unfairly, with both of them voicing their distaste for their treatment. I'll point to Eowyn because everyone doubted her for being a woman, and to Kiara for being overprotected by her father. But the best comparison would be that both were explicitly told to stay out of battle, and both defied orders and got involved anyway, meaning they're both headstrong and rebellious, but with good reason and good cause. And as a result, both were able to positively affect the battle's outcome by doing something that otherwise would not've happened had they stayed away, using smart, selfless, brave and noble tactics. (Eowyn when she killed the Witch King, and Kiara when she joined the two prides together and
fought Zira down the cliff). Also, Eowyn defended Theoden, the king, by fighting off the Witch King in front of him. Kiara defended Simba, the king, by fighting off Zira in front of him.

That's a far better comparison to make. If anything, Scar and Zira were the ones tempting everyone they encountered. Plus if the Ring were ever changed into lion form, that's who I'd imagine it'd be
