Meet a Character
If you could have a one-hour interview with one of the characters from The Lord of the Rings, who would it be, and what sorts of questions would you ask that person? Don't be afraid to sound stupid, just tell me what you think!
|
id ask saruman if those nails are real, and if he has them properly manicured at a salon.
id also like to ask sauron what its like to be a flaming eyeball, and if he has a complex air-conditioning system in mordor |
i'd talk to frodo and ask him if he got his eyes surgically enlarged because how else could they be so damned big?
then i would talk to merry and ask him about his one-sided mouth thing... And finally i would talk to Aragorn about his growly-snarly-mouth thing |
Yes, I know what you mean about Merry! I've seen Dominic Monaghan in other places and it seems to be something he's stuck with. It adds something to his character, though.

Do you mean the charactor or the actor? I'll just take it as the character... I think I'd like to ask Bilbo how he managed to get detailed maps of all M.E. including Mordor when Sauron didn't even know of the Shire's existance. And I'd ask Saruman how he manages to get to his observatory-ish place on top of Orthanc when there's no staircase, I'd ask the Balrog if he actually has wings (in the book, not the movie), and I'd ask Arwen if she got permission to "borrow" Glorfindel's horse before SHE got to ride openly against the 9. Oh yeah- and I'd ask Glorfindel why he didn't, and I'd ask him if the stone he left on the bridge is an emerald (beryl, elf-stone in basic gem-lore) or a peridot (pale green, wards off wraith's in basic gem-lore).
|
I know Dom's last name isn't Campbell, but perhaps if he has some Campbell blood in him? Because it means 'crooked mouth'. Just a suggestion. It might account for his mouth.
And I'd like to talk to Eowyn. Don't ask me why. I'm thinking about it. ~ Elentari II |
I just read your one, Feanor. A lot of questions. Good ones, though.
I like your signature. Unfortunately, there are still some girls arguing about that, but never mind...anyway, welcome!! ~ Elentari II, the one in summer |
There are so many questions to ask the (book) characters if I could, but most of all I'd like to sit in the garden with Sam and ask him about his adventures.
Just re-reading the messages gave me a sudden image of Jeremy Paxman interviewing Saruman (for non-Brits, he's a political reporter/journalist, known for giving politicians a hard time in interviews.) JP: Can you explain why you have treated the hobbits of the Shire so badly? S: I'm afraid you'll have to explain what you mean by 'badly treated'. JP: Come on Saruman, answer the question, why did you treat the hobbits so badly? S: I think you'll find that 98% of orcs approve of my handling of the hobbit situation. JP: But thousands of hobbits have suffered at your hands, what have you got to say to the families of the victims? S: They are merely unsubstantiated rumours, and these insulting accusations are examples of your biased reporting and pro-hobbit leanings. JP: But you've made a real mess of things, haven't you? Nobody in the Shire wants you in charge. You've lost all popular support, just admit it... |
i wanna ask haldir if he has two brothers or two sisters. finish the argument once and for all
|
I'd ask any hobbit if they had concidered electrolisis.
Thenn I'd ask Pippin or Merry if I can room with them for a couple of---Forevers. |
I would love to have Bilbo over for tea. I wouldn't bother with a bunch of questions. I'd just want to hear his songs.
|
I would ask Merry why his eyebrows are so vengeful.
I expect the answer is that he stole Grima's and Gollum's to add to his. I would ask Arwen why she looks like a horse when she cries. Um...what else.....? |
I would ask Lord Elrond why he diddnt just push Isuildor into the fires of mout doom!... When you think about it... this whole thing could have been avoided if he did....
|
Interesting about the Elrond thing, Isilidur was going to die anyway so he might as well gone then (but there must be some other reasons that he did not just do that, maybe it was because they had just been in battle and so many other people had died, and he did not want to take another life?)
I think I would love to interview Sam, about his friendship with Frodo, and being part of all those amazing events involving the ring and all. I would also think it would be cool to interveiw Gandalf, he would have so much wisdom about Middle Earth, I would want him to teach me all of it |
Hmmm, I would ask Arwen what she sees in Aragorn(scruffy).
And the most important, Pippin, what does he see in Diamond of Long Cleeve |
Hmmmm...
I would talk to Aragorn and say WHY DIDN'T YOU GO FOR EOWYN?!?! WHAT THE HELL DID ARWEN EVER DO FOR YOU?!?!? I've always wondered about that. |
BECAUSE ARWEN LOVED HIM!!!! AND THE MOST EOWYN FELT WAS A CRUSH!!!! AND ARAGORN LOVED ARWEN!!!!
Arwen didn't have to do anything for Aragorn except be there and love him. And she did love him. Only if I go into that I'll be going off topic. ~ Elentari II P.S. And while we're on this, WHAT ON MIDDLE-EARTH DID EOWYN DO FOR ARAGORN?!?!! [ February 17, 2003: Message edited by: Bekah ] |
I'd ask:
Gimli-if he's ever seen a dwarf woman before Legolas-how old he was and what color hair he had (well, I guess I wouldn't have to ask him that one if I had an interveiw with him) |
I'd interview Tom Bombadil and
A) Ask him to tell me exactly WHO and WHAT he is. B) Get really angry when all he gives me is some annoying little song. C) Lock him in the closet until he gives me the answer . |
Heehee. I would want to talk to Tom Bombadil, because he's so cheerful and I think it would be fun to talk to him. Also Pippin *sigh*, Eowyn (because I think she's really a powerful figure) and Gandalf, because I would want to hear it all from his point of view. I wouldn't know what to ask them though, I would probably be tongue-tied just to be able to do that.
toodles |
No now i think about it, id interview Aragorn, chances are he wont have special lighting requirements like ricky martain does when you interview him. Which would be the problem with interviewing Legoas, and he would need hair and m/up there all the time.
Which would be no problem with Aragorn being that he doesnt seem to care what he looks like. And after all, how many of us have interviewed the king of Gondor??? YEAH! Take that Angela Bishop! Take it all the way to Antonia Kidman!...(BTW, only people who see In Entertainment would know what the hell im talking about. ) |
I'd like to interview Beorn. Just because. Also Thorin, because I wonder why he did some of the things that he did. Boromir and Faramir at the same time, though that might prove hazardous to my health.
|
Quote:
B) I doubt you could stay angry with him for long C) You don't think he knows the song to open up the closet? C'mon, he has the 'song' for everything. As for me, the characters I would most like to sit down with would be Sam, Bombadil and Gandalf. I don't know exactly what I would ask them, but I certainly wouldn't pry Tom for answers. I like him the way he is . Sam would just be a fun lad to have tea with (as would Bilbo), and I think one would grow wiser simply by being in the presence of Gandalf. Cheers! -Angmar |

B) Really? He's the most annoying character in ME. C) You're right. Maybe I'd better gag him so he can't sing. [ August 06, 2003: Message edited by: Meneltarmacil ] |
I would talk to Gollum and ask him (if i could)why he gave his life for middle earth when no one cared about him?

Movie-wise, I'd ask Arwen why the heck she usurped Glorfindel, and what right she had to steal his horse... which brings me to the next character:
Glorfindel- I'd want to know how he felt about being usurped.. I'd also want to know if Aragorn was truly ablutophobic, or if he just likes the grease in his hair. Tom Bombadil- hmm, I'd definitely have to ask him about the poetry which would lead to me asking Goldberry what she thinks of Tom's poetry. Merry and Pippin- I'd have to ask what the orc draught was like, and I'd be amused (for some odd reason) to hear Pippin try to explain Treebeard's eyes again. As for Dom.. I'd really want to know how many times he's ever said the word "meep" (don't ask) and I'd also want to ask Elijah how many times he's said the word "Lofty" and if he says it so often because it's in Tolkien's writings quite often. And before I shut up, I'd really want to know more about how Faramir felt about his father wanting to burn him alive, and wishing that he was dead in place of Boromir, and also what he would think about being portrayed as he was in the movie (although I hear about a redemption for his e-vileness in the extended edtion of TTT) Ok, I could go on and on forever but I'll just shut up now |
Hmm...I would definitley interview old Bilbo and ask him to teach me a bit of the skills of being a good thief. Sometimes its handy to know how to pick someone's pocket, especially if it happens to be a troll. Plus, I'd just want to experience that good hospitality he has while enjoying some snacks from his larder. I'd also like to have a chat with Gandalf and ask if he'd do the fireworks for my next birthday party.
|
I'd like to interview Merry and Pippin, at the same time. I wouldn't even have to ask any questions, I just want to witness them first hand. Now that would be quality entertainment.
And a talk with Sam sounds wonderful. Inside Bag End for tea or outside in the garden; doesn't matter to me which. I'd just ask him the general questions: about the Quest, Frodo, Rosie, and his children. Lastly, I'd interview the Nazgûl and ask them what their names are (though that would ruin the fun of naming them...). |
I'd probably ask Galadriel to relate her personal favorite and most affecting stories in the history of the Noldor as she experienced it, her reasons for the embalming of Lothlorien, her perception of the Elves' purpose and achievements, "tell me about Aman" etc. etc.--and then, I'd toddle over to Bag End and have tea with Sam, Merry and Pippin (and Frodo if he was still around, but I don't think I'd get anything out of him--Sam is more likely to talk. ) Also I liked the idea of listening to Bilbo's songs!
Cheers, Lyta |
I'd like to ask Beren, Tuor, and Turin how were they able to win the love of Elven Princesses such as Luthien, Idril, and Finduilas who were among the fairest of the Eldar. And i'd be much interested in Turin who loved not the daughter of Orodreth King of Nargothrond when it was his chance to be a great lord and a kinsman of the princes of the house of Finarfin...argh! i could've given anything for that even if Faelivrin's beauty was not my type. atleast i could have the opportunity of being the King of Nargothrond if i wed her!
|
Hmmmmmmmm....King of Nargothrond or simple humble and obscure hobbit? I think I'll remain the latter and stay in the background away from the trouble, much like Finarfin himself, eh? (except in a much better place!) But I suppose Finarfin got to live longer that way! It does always make me wonder what the Vanyar and those like Finarfin missed in not going to Middle Earth (although his repentance I can understand). (I must admit to being a Fëanor fan, though, and probably would have followed him up until the killing started...sure, I would have loved to have a good long talk with Fëanor, but I probably wouldn't get anything I could understand until after he went to Mandos! (And then its too late for yours truly, the simple obscure hobbit!)
Cheers, Lyta |
I think I would interview Treebeard. He must have so many stories (that he'd only take a few years to tell ). Plus if I got bored I could just make a slingshot out of two of his fingers, or whittle myself a new pipe

I would interview Tom Bombadil and Treebeard and ask which one of them is REALLY the eldest...
Oh, and Galadriel... ask her what would happen if someone touched the water in the mirror... I have began writing that tale Here. It's a Star Wars crossover, in case anyone bothers reading it. So yah, that's what I'd do. -Eowyn Skywalker |

I'd like to ask Arwen if she'd go out with me... And I'd ask the Orcs if its been hard to get work now since they had such a bad representation in the films. |
I'd love to interview the Nazgûl....*sigh*...I'd ask what their names were and where they were from, and maybe ask what it was like to be undead. Heheheh...
Interviewing the Mouth of Sauron would be interesting too. And Elladan and Elrohir, just to see if they were as mischievious as most writers make them. |
I'd love to talk to Faramir before he meets Eowyn;) , I'd also like to interview Gandalf because he seems to know the most about what goes on in Middle-Earth.
|
Who would I talk to now... Way back when, I was full of smart-alecky questions. Now? Not so smart-alecky. Well... I still am... but my questions aren't so much.
I think I'd like to talk to Imrahil. I'm not entirely sure why, but I just like him. He's a pretty cool guy. I'd be like... "So... what are family reunions like? Ever get bonfires going?" Ask him what he thinks of the state of Gondor these days, and if he likes the way Aragorn's been running things. ;) I'd bring Forlong back to life, and ask him what his final thoughts were, fighting alone and unhorsed in the middle of enemies... I'd love to chat with the herbmaster of the Houses of Healing. Have a nice long discussion on the names and uses of all of the healing herbs in the land... then ask where I can find them. :D I'd talk to Halbarad, about what it's like to be one of the Dunedain. It's got to be pretty bad, growing up in pretty much secret, and then being shunned by the general populace. Then I'd ask how his ride to Rohan went... any trouble on the road, and whatnot. I'd love to ask Sauron some stuff...: Me: So, Lord Sauron, what were your final thoughts when the Ring was destroyed. Sauron (sarcastically): Well, my first thoughts were "Oh. Well, that's certainly not a good thing. What shall I do in my soon to be endless amount of spare time? Will they let me take my knitting needles into the Void?" Me: No, really... what were you thinking? Anything along the lines of "Melkor's gonna be p!$$ed?" Sauron: Actually, it was more like "Oh f#%@" and then my volcano erupted, my house crumbled, my armies rebelled, my undead servants flew away, and I lost all form and power." It's really an interesting experience. How would you like it if in one second, you were proven dead wrong on some pretty important issues, and then you lost everything? It's not fun. Me: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring up such painful memories... Fea |
I would meet Legolas and ask him if he really put that much effort into his looks. It may be because he's an elf, you know...
