The new theme is THE SHIRE and the poll asks:

Quote:
If you were a hobbit which family would you belong to?

Tell us your answer and why you chose it.

The Tooks

I voted for the tooks because they were the only Hobbits to resist the ruffians (apart from Lobelia ofcourse)

Yes

Indeed I did.
So I'll change it to;

I voted for the Tooks because they were the only Hobbits to successfully resist the Ruffians.

The Gamgee's

A salt of the earth, working class rural family whose members proved at least equal to those of the other mentioned families.

Re: The Gamgee's

Brandybucks naturally. They always seemed to be the most adventurous of the hobbit families, living on the edge of the shire. Some of the not even really in the Shire. Plus they had Brandyhall. I would have liked to inherit that sometime, and maybe have been a Thain.

But the Tooks had a really nice hobbit hole. A waterfront property...

The Tooks seemed to have the most fun and adventures, being the most carefree. What fun to be a hobbit!!!

Re:I had to think about it

I mean it would be an honor to be even distantly related to Sam and I like to see plants grow and all that so I could've choseen Gamgee, but as things were I think that being a Took would be a blast!!!!Pippin seems to have a type of carefree additude, even when he's in trouble,I also can relate to Pippin because I never think straight, and anyway I love to do the adventourous stuff,so it was Took for me!

Re: Hobbits poll

I really like the Tooks - they are so full of adventure, and they face adversity bravely and with level heads. But the one who really kept it all together was Samwise Gamgee. If it were not for him, Frodo would have lost it well before Mt. Doom. His will was strong, and even for an uneducated hobbit, he had one heck of a lot more sense than some of the others. He was rooted firmly in the Shire (no pun intended), but his loyalty was so strong he went on that dangerous journey to Mordor with his master. If loyalty, sense, tradition mean as much as bravery and adventure, then the Gamgees get my vote. (But I still think Tooks are OK too)

Hobbit Poll

Any of the families coming from Stoor stock. They seem a little more adventurous and wilder than the other hobbit families.

MYyyPreciousSS 07-05-2002 12:02 AM

The Tooks! Tooks are always seem to be the fun ones. You could say i'm the Pippin type.

Child of the 7th Age 07-06-2002 08:52 AM

I would be a Baggins. Couldn't resist having the same last name as Bilbo and Frodo. Hopefully, I would be descended from a Baggins/Took or Baggins/Brandybuck alliance which would make for that interesting pull of the personality in two different directions!

Neferchoirwen 07-06-2002 09:09 AM

The Gamgee's are my ideal family. but based on the nature of my personality, I'd go for the Tooks. Their 'wild side' is totally me.

*Varda* 07-06-2002 01:35 PM

TOOKS! they always seemed to have so much more fun! Alternatively i'd be a Brandybuck...be pretty cool living next the Old Forest.

Eärendil 07-06-2002 01:45 PM

Er...I would have to say that I could go with either of the Took, Baggins, Gamgee or Brandybuck-family...
I have bits of everyone in me I think: I like gardening, I am adventurous etc etc...

gollum*elf*pup 07-06-2002 03:20 PM

the gollum family!!!
second choise, tooks i guess.

Tigerlily Gamgee 07-06-2002 03:51 PM

I would be a Gamgee! Although, I would not really want the Gaffer to be my father, perhaps I could be a daughter of Samwise... then I would always get to hear the tale of Frodo of the nine fingers and all of Bilbo's stories as well. Plus, Sam seems like a nice guy (OK, that was cheesy!)

Raefindel 07-08-2002 09:58 AM

I'm probably more like a Baggins than any of the others, though I am a gardener like Sam.

Gandalf_theGrey 07-08-2002 10:25 AM

Definitely a Baggins.

And definitely from the line of Fallohides, based on the following documented Fallohide traits:

1) Lovers of trees and woodlands

2) More friendly with Elves than other Hobbits were

3) More skill in language and song than in handicrafts, and of old they preferred hunting to tilling

4) Somewhat bolder and more adventurous, they were often found as leaders or chieftains among clans of Harfoots or Stoors

(Above traits listed in Tolkien's "Concerning Hobbits" in the Prologue of LOTR.)

~~ Gandalf the Grey

Aralaithiel 07-08-2002 04:38 PM

I would be a daughter of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins! I can relate to her!
If not that, then my second choice would be Baggins. They were definitely closer to the Elves in wisdom.

Belin 07-08-2002 04:44 PM

I consider myself very similar to Pippin, but much of this has to do with seeming out of place and seeing things slightly differently than other people. I am not particularly adventurous, or adventurous at all, although I do like to see things happening, so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be a Took.

Most of my names have water in them, so I'd probably be a Brandybuck. I guess this has certain advantages--I could live near the river (maybe even know how to swim!) and the Old Forest AND I'd be close enough to the Tooks to spend time with them, probably something I'd very much enjoy.

Besides, I could tweak my name into Belinda Brandybuck, which sounds great, doesn't it?

--Belin Ibaimendi

Bêthberry 07-08-2002 09:16 PM

Surely the daughter of the daughter of the River Daughter and a Bombadil to boot would be a Brandybuck.
Quote:

'And no wonder they're queer!' put in Daddy Twofoot (the Gaffer's next-door neighbour), 'if they live on the wrong side of the Brandwine River, and right agin the Old Forest. That's a dark bad place, if half the tales be true.'

'You're right, Dad!' said the Gaffer. 'Not that the Brandybucks of Buckland live in the Old Forest; but they're a queer breed, seemingly. They fool about with boats on that big river-and that isn't natural.'
Hmm. Might there have been a bit of Stoor mixed in with the Fallohide in the case of the Brandybucks?

Ulairi 07-08-2002 09:57 PM

Brandybucks for me. Curious and liked adventures. Weren't afraid of water or boats.

Elessar,Elfstone 07-12-2002 11:45 AM

A Took or a Brandybuck. If I was a Took,I'd be related to Pippin and Bilbo, and a Brandybuck I'd be related to Merry and Frodo!
