A idea about the "fangirl" Problem we've been having
I have been thinking recently about the Quote-Unquote "Fangirl" Problem we've been having. Mods have been having a time trying to keep things sorted out (Anyone remember that "Why do YOU like Legolas" Thread?) and some members are growing irritated with them.
I THINK I have found a salutation. I speak as one of the Legolas-lusters that you'll never clear us out and if you try to suppress us, you'll loose popularity quickly. Now, anyone knows that if steam builds up, its bound to let itself out somewhere and I've been thinking that perhaps we should make a fourm for these girls (Myself included) to let their steam out in....Yes, thats right, a "Swooning" Fourm. I personally belong to another fourm where they have a swooning fourm and thats where all the "ORLI TAKE ME NOW!!" and "ELIJAH I LOVE YOU!!!" posts go to, instead of all the other fourms, cluttering the entire site up. And members who dont like the swooning aspect have a choice of going or not going, instead of facing it in fourms they DO go into. I apologize if a thread like this has been posted before, but I just had to voice My opinion. Now, if you DO consider this but can find no one to MOD it, I'd be happy to, although I BEG you to look into all other possibilities before choosing Me. I once MODed a Swoon fourm and I dont think I was worth My salt there. But if no one else will take the part, I will, and thats IF you decide to go ahead with this idea. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please know that I would not have posted it if I didnt think it would be of help to all you MODs. |
Salutations! The only problem with that is to be fair we would have to make a 'fanboy' ('fanman'?) forum as well, to praise Liv Tyler's lips, her legs, her... uh well, moving right along. You get the idea. Whenever I need to let off steam I go into chat and hit on bawdy Rimbaud.

I ment that fourm to be for BOTH sexs, Sir

Welcome to the downs Kithrena! Glad to have you. While there has been an invasion of young ladies who are fans of the actors as of late the problem is not new. "Fangirls" as you put it started coming roughly about 10 months ago. We've managed to keep a fair amount of order and popularity since then and I am confident we will continue to do so.
The downs is a place for Tolkien discussion. Many many "fangirls" have come and gone since the movie. We have sort of a trickle down effect. Many many "fangirls" leave while a few stick around for serious discussion. While the movie is discussed here swooning really doesn't contribute much to those who want to discuss the books on a different level. By creating a "swoon" forum we would change the atmosphere of this board. Yes, more of the "fangirls" would stick around but I don't think that's the kind of popularity the Administrators of this site seek. It would be counter productive. Note: I am not an admistrator or mod of this site. Nor do I represent them in any way. All the contents of this post are personal opinion based on my experiences on this forum/site. P.s. I believe Maril is a Ma'am |
Isn't Maril a lady?
Anyway, Kithrena, the problem with creating a "swoon" forum would be this: it would seem like the admins are SUPPORTING that kind of frivolous discussion. While they (and we ) put up with it, it really isn't what this forum was created for. Plus, fangirls come and fangirls go. A few stick around, but for most, a couple of posts and they vanish. Probably not worth it to make a forum if they're going to leave anyway, eh? |

I got an idea: why don't you start your own web site with your own "swoon room", and take it on down the road? |
Bawdy!?!?!?
I am a polite and mannered member of this society, never wont to express my opinion in anything less than the most subtle verbal couchings. You, ma'am, are heading the right way for some punishment. Out of interest, this propounded Vomitarium of an extra Forum...we'd be allowed to swoon about members here as well as characters/actors, right? |

Squatter, lest ye mistake my zest for getting jest off my chest as what I think best, let me inform ye, good sir, that the poke was a joke, just humourous smoke wafted at the good folk, a jocular croak, if you will.
|
Besides, you can already swoon over Squatter's Middle-earth-ish tresses right here in the BD forum.
|
Well now, how does this idea strike everyone? - With a dull thud, if I may say so, Tyson.
Indeed I am most definately a ma'am, though not always a lady. And I thought that would get a rise out of you, Rim-boy. I'm a sassy miss. How could I resist? Or cease and desist? No, Squatter, we already have a thread dedicated to commenting on eachother. And you look quite dapper in that hat, by-the-bye. My dear, I always assume that Legolusting and Frodopalsy are temporary conditions, and most of the fangirls will stay for the fine intellectual discourse. But if we do start a "swoon" forum, might I request the inclusion of Slash fiction? -Ms. Maril |

Jealousy will get you nowhere, lads; I bet no-one ever calls you "dapper". All the same I'd like the fan mail not to exceed two sacks this week.
Thanks, Maril; I like that hat too. |
Kithrena: first of all: welcome! I hope you find this site to be all you hoped it to be! Happy death!
Secondly: I'm sure there are many boards for the specific actors/characters out there. I know that the characters actually do have their own sites, because I stumbled upon a few of them, and the actors certainly do. Wouldn't that be a better place post on for that topic? And, I did once happen upon a Forum that had a "Drool Room" of sorts, and it was kind of...erm...bad. I mean, I think it destroys the entire point of this board, personally. I mean: you can look for the site if you want (before posting this, I took about 15 minutes trying to find it again, but failed). Also: about the Slash, while I don't personally find it either offensive or amusing, many people find it the first, so: I highly doubt that they would have Slash Fanfiction on this site anywhere. Also: you do not know how young some of the people here might be. And, the moderators moderate so much already and the rooms are getting so crowded that I do not think the site could really deal with that kind of mass drooling at once. I mean: they already started closing topics and they deleted many Freestyle RPG's to make room, I believe. And, it would be hard to moderate the room in general because of the kind of people the room would attract. Also: Kithrena: while you seem willing to "share" your love for Orlando Bloom, there are many, many people who are not. I once, when asked what I thought of Orlando Bloom in the movie, replied "I thought he made a really good Legolas!" and was met with "Uh-uh! Hands off! He's mine girlie!" Yes: I know: delusional, obsessive, pathetic were all words that popped into my mind too...but: they would probably happen upon the site too, and then they would probably contribute to the other topics and...well...okay: I'll stop complaining about what would happen now...gee: and when I first read that, I thought "hmmm: that might be a good idea...". I have to stop thinking so much... Ick - the very thought of a "Swoon Room" makes me want to use some very unladylike language.
And Maril, I thought "lady" a better noun than "chick". I too am a Miss, but 9 times out of 10 not a lady in the mannerly sense of the word. I have friends who do the Orlie swooning thing, and they apparently find it very hard to keep their conversations G-rated, or even PG rated. Ewww! A whole forum of people talking about THAT???? Orlando Bloom would never come out of his house again! |
Quote:
Well, not sure Orlando Bloom would ever know, being that he is apparently some sort of technophobe. I feel his pain. This whole "Internet" thing scares me to death...I am surprised I get this far. And "unladylike" words did come to my mind too, Elenna, and I, too, had to restrict my post greatly from what I felt like saying about the concept of "Slash Fanfiction". Buuut, we are supposed to be nice on here, so, while I said that I do not like it and I do not hate it, I had many words about what I thought of the general idea of a board for slash fanfiction. |
Squatter, charmed I'm sure.
Bethberry, I think Goldwine aka "Hot Chick" has the copyright to the title Chick TM. Van, I was as kidding about the slash as I was about encouraging a "swoon room." That was the, uh, point of the joke. Van, you have no idea how many conservative Christians there are on this site. Including a certain breed of offensive newbies I like to hunt for sport. They would go apesh-... bananas. Which is kinda why I'd like to see it, heh. But I don't think BW would go through all that, just to entertain little ol' me. -Maril |
there is only one way to stop the fangirl problem.
(loads gun) anyone know where orli lives? |
Quote:
Even if you killed orli, there would still be pictures! There would probebly be more hype about him, he would be a martyr. |
(buys extra ammo)
fine. ill have to hunt down the fangirls too. ...one man against the world... |

face it, us guys still live in the stone age.
...need women ...he got women ...me pump his guts full of lead ...me get women simple, eh? |
Honestly, do you all know what the real problem with the fangirls is? It's not the swooning, it's the style (or lack thereof) of swooning.
Dear girls, you give proper wenches such as myself a bad name. Quote:

Kithrčna - If you think your first idea was bad, I think an even worse idea is to print a person's private information on a public forum.
I've written to the administrators asking to have the address deleted, but you might have the decency to do it yourself. |
Uhh...I made that address up
|
And in the wake of those words came the sound of a thousand notebook pages being torn out and binned.
|
For goodness sake guys, go easy on Kithrena. She was only making a suggestion. And anyone could tell that address was made up.

You're right. Everyone knows that he lives at Pondicherry Lodge, London Road, Oxford. :smokin:

Ah well, enough cruise missles for both.
*Pats cruise missile* Seriously, I don't understand this social behavior. When did people start swooning over actors in a movie? Me confused..... [ October 15, 2002: Message edited by: Ransom ] |

To all of you men who are apparently feeling very threatened by Orlie:
There are plenty of girls who find a skinny British kid who smokes and finds a lot of excitement in things that could kill him very unattractive. Sure, he looks nice, but I'll take common sense any day. Plus, he's a self-admitted technophobe! Could any of us BD girls live with that? |
