The Barrow-Downs chat room is open. You can get there in 2 ways:

1) Use your IRC client to go to : irc.sorcery.net:6667 #barrowdowns

2) Go to www.barrowdowns.com/Chat.asp and read the instructions.

However you get there, don't worry if the place is empty. Hang out a while and see who shows up. Remember this forum when there were only a handful of users? The chat room will be like that, too.

Also, the chat room is a good resource when you notice someone is posting in the forum at the same time as you. If you feel like discussing a point or asking a question, the chat room will be perfect.

Overall, chat rooms are fairly unused assets. I'll really be surprised if it gets used much. But I've made it available. So at least try it (if your comp can)

OK, I'm not that bright. And I use a Mac. (And no doubt some people would say that the latter setence was redundant.) But I have figured out how to down load an ircle and how to contact sorcery net. What I can't seem to do is select our channel and log-on. Mind you this is rather more than I accomplished when I tried to access PT's chatroom a month or so ago. Can anyone possibly help me figure out the next step?

once you have the irc client running and you are at sorcery.net, simply type: /join #barrowdowns in the chat window (or wherever it is in the client that you type what you want to say - usually at the bottom of the window)

Unfortunately, I am unable to participate in the chat room. My browser, Netscape Navigator 4.08, doesn't seem to be able seem to be able to handle it. Is there a way that you could configure it so that it accepted Netscape Browsers at all, Ron?

The chat client I am using directly on the web page is unalterable.... but I am looking for a better one that will work with Netscape, too.

Thanks, Wight. I have been in touch with lindil, and he has told me that the chat room would be a great place to work out the revised Silma canon studies. As my browser won't allow it, this is impossible, so I need to have this working.
By the way, have you checked your e-mail lately Ron? I've sent you the promised quiz, and something else as well.

Those of you using Netscape, have you tried downloading an IRC program? I did because I'm a Mac-user. But I'm also a Netscaper and this obviates my access issues. Perhaps it can solve yours?

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. The Barrow-Downs chatroom is on an IRC server. The chat page on the Downs is a java applet that lets you chat on the IRC server.

An IRC client is a separate program that works much better than the web page java applet. www.mirc.com is the one I recommend. Download and install it and I'll help you with anyhting you get stuck on.
