name the quote's speaker game!

ok, here's how you play:
1. namne the person who speaks the given quote
2. if you are the first person to get it right (the person who gave the quote will tell you if you're right or wrong) then YOU must post a quote

simple? ok i'll begin

"Go not to the Elves for counsel, for they will say both no and yes."

Amie 06-06-2002 09:24 PM

oh, by the way, a few obvious (hopefully) things i forgot to mention:
1. you can use quotes from any of the books (the hobbit or the trilogy)
2. you can't answer your own

have fun!

That´s Frodo (who says the quote), isn´t it?

Aldagrim Proudfoot 06-07-2002 12:41 PM

I thought it was Gandalf to Frodo.

the second person wins! (i'm sry, i forgot ur sn)

Eärendil 06-08-2002 12:07 AM

Second person? Who´s that?

zifnab 06-08-2002 09:00 AM

Eärendil and I are both correct, but since Eärendil answered first he/she should go. You actually asked 'who' said the quote and I answered 'who to whom'. I know Eärendil had it right when I posted my answer, I was mainly only doing that to 'confirm' it. Go ahead Eärendil...

Eärendil 06-08-2002 10:51 AM

Okay...
" Saruman is a fool, and a dirty treacherous fool.
But the eye is on him."

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-08-2002 11:25 AM

That was Grisnakh.

Eärendil 06-08-2002 11:36 AM

Yep. Your turn...

Eärendil 06-10-2002 10:55 AM

Hello? I want to hear another quote so I can guess!!

zifnab 06-10-2002 12:12 PM

An 'unknown' rule of thumb here in the 'downs, is that we usually wait at least a week before we deem that the 'quoter' has either forgotten or is too busy to continue. I am only mentioning this, 'cause I have been 'away' from the quiz/qoute thread for a few months and on my 'unnoticed' return I saw people only waiting 2 or 3 days to 'override' the origianl quoter.

Eärendil 06-11-2002 10:35 AM

Ah, okay, didn´t know that, sorry.
Oh well, I wasn´t going to post a new quote or anything..

Amie 06-13-2002 08:56 PM

that's ok, u didn't know!

Amie 06-17-2002 08:57 PM

hello? is anyone gonna go? i don't wanna seem rude, but we've waited for quite a while now.

thats a bit long isnt it? who cares who posts the quote, its not a big deal. if someone gets it let them post a quote, but if the person doesnt post a quote within two days someone else needs to for the game can continue and not have one quote per week.

Amie 06-18-2002 09:28 PM

alright then, i'm going to post one:

"Elves and Dragons!
Cabbages and potatoes are better for you."

TarElendil 06-18-2002 09:45 PM

gaffer gamgee.
sam's dad

zifnab 06-19-2002 01:35 PM

I think you misinterrupted that, Tar Elendil. I never intended my post to mean, 'wait a week for a quote'. My theory is that if somebody gets a quote right, it is common sense, and/or rightful to let that person quote next. If everybody but a quote out it would be mass chaos, 5 or 10 unansered quotes floating around one thead at once, seems rather silly. If the next 'quoter' does not quote anything/or answer the quote, then in one weeks time(7 days is not a long time to wait, since not everybody is hunched over a keyboard 24/7), then a person can take over. If things work smoothly, then by all means you can have a quote or multiple quotes per day. I mean no offense, of course.

Amie that was easy, considering that it is on the top of the page. Oh well. Tar-Elendil's turn.
