A-Z of Middle-earth
For this trivia game, we start with A and try and work through the alphabet as many times as possible using words from Middle-earth and then describing them.
A is for Anarion The younger son of Elendil the Talland brother of Isildur. The brothers, both of whom had been born in Numenor before its Fall, ruled as conjoint Kings of Gondor from shortly after its founding until Anarion perished at the Seige of Barad-dur. |
Let's do: B for Barad-dur
Tower of adamant, and twice it was the main fortress of Sauron. Once ended in the Last Aliance and Sauron losing the Ring. The second was during the LotR and ended with the destruction of the One Ring. |
C is for Cadharas

That ofcourse should be 'Great Eagles'
H for Haldir - the elf who found the company in Lothlorien
I is for Ioreth, the eldest of the women who served in the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith. She remembered that "the hands of a king are the hands of a healer" and was called wise-woman of Gondor by Gandalf.
I suspect we might have more than a little trouble with J. Tolkien doesn't seem to have been overly fond of that particular letter.
What about: Jewels of Fëanor:A name which Fëanor, their maker, gave to the Silmarils.
Indeed - that is the only entry for J that the encyclopedia of Arda gives. I suspect Quenya and Sindarin don't even possess the letter.
K is for Khazad-dum...ya know, the bridge Gandalf fell off of in Moria. )
L is for Legolas - Greenleaf
He came from Mirkwood, and became one of the Nine Walkers that accompanied the One Ring on its journey to the East. |
M is for Mithrandir.Gandalf was called that by the Elfs. It means Grey Pilgrim.
M is (my gf tells me) for Mithril
Or True Silver. The metal only found In Khaza-dum, which price was ten times and now it is beyond price - It could be beaten like copper, and polished like glass; and the dwarves could make of it a metal, light and yet harder than tempered steel. Its beauty was like to that of common silver, but the beauty of mithril did not tarnish or grow dim. The Elves loved it - and used it for among other to make ithildin, starmoon. |
N is for Naughrim. Another name for the dwarves. Made by aule to withstand the wiles of Morgoth. The greatest smiths in middle earth. Great in strength, stout in heart.
O is for Orodreth, the younger brother of Finrod and Galadriel (and, by one account, the father of Gil-galad); he ruled Nargothrond after Finrod was killed in Tol-in-Gaurhoth.
Now, here is a game nobody can lose.
P is for Púkel-men . Great carved stones in the likeness of men, huge and clumsy-limbed, squatting crosslegged with their stumpy arms folded on fat bellies, That lined the road to Dunharrow in the White Mountains. |

R is for Rohan, the grassy land inhabited by the horse-lords
S is for Sîdhrîs
No, seriously: S is for the Shire, land of the Halflings and home of Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin. |
And T is for Tirion, the city of the Elves in Aman... or for tuna, the hill it was build on.

Z is for Zirak-Zigil.
The dwarven name of Celebdil, one of Moria´s three mountains. It was here Gandalf was picked up by Gwaihir after his fight with the balrog. |
So what happens now, is it over?
How about we start one for different races? Being a Dwarf, let's start with them. A is for Azanulbizar. The once fair pass outside the gates of Khazad-dum. It contains the source of the Silverlode and the Mirrormir. |
I think this is a good idea, Gorin, so I'll continue:
