Why does Galadriel say, in the movie, "I pass the test! I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel. "
Long story, but the upshot of it is that Galadriel was either forbidden to or refused to return to Valinor, the Uttermost West, which is Elvendom and inaccesible to mortals.
The offering of the ring by Frodo was either the ultimate temptation as Galadriel was considered to have desired dominion in Middle-Earth or her realising that she was finally weary of Middle-Earth and the ring was the final test of her willingness to stay. |
pretty much right but because she realizes that she CAN go to the gray havens
ask a question |
Many thanks.
OK, what weather did Galadriel contrive for the riding of the Éothéod to the Battle of the Field of Celebrant ? |
Mist
Spot on, as usual, Mr Macc. Your turn.
Speaking of the Éothéod, who led the éored that rode against the Wainriders during the days of Calimehtar?
Sorry to question your question Bruce, but isn't an eored composed of 120 men? Harly enough to lead against the wainriders? I cant remember a full muster was called, and I havent got my books at hand (as I should have if I question you) But maybe Eothed??? Still I don't suppose that that word had come into exsistence in the end of the 2nd Millenium of the 3rd Age ??? - The guys name I cant remember either - sorry!
The passage I am referring to uses the word èored specifically.
Finally got time to dig deeper! His name was Marhwini son of Marhari.
Bruce have lectured me and I here takes the oppotunity to briefly enlighten others on the matter: An éored was the name for any body of riders. Marhwini was said to have led 'a great éored' but it was not until King Folcwine of the Mark that a 'Full éored' got the fixed number of 'at least' 120 riders including the captain. The éored was at that time (some 100 years before WoTR) considered to be one 100th of a full Muster of the Mark. Telchar |

What was the relative number of the forces of Gondor (Those who were at Minas Tirith at the beginning of the battle) at the Pellanor Fields? And of Mordor, including the Easterlings and Southrons, and Variags.
Dior, the Quiz and Quotes thread usually work in this manner. Whoever answers the question correctly asks the next one. We try to keep it in an order, so that the thread isnt bombarded with many questions at once. Its only been a few days, since Mirkgirl got the question right. Give her a few more, then feel free to post a question. And you are always welcomed to start a new thread.
ezactly, um, thats all i guess, hmmmm, yeah...
ok, sorry. But if she doesn't post one, can someone try to answer mine?

I did give her a few days.

Sry, was a bit busy lately
Name all the dwarves who went to Moria with Balin and were mentioned in LotR. |
Floi, Oin, Ori, Frar, Loni, and Nali.
I didn't know how to put the accent marks on some of them, but whatever. |
You got it and have the next Q /the one you already posted, I guess/
It wasn't that hard to follow the rules, was it? |
Ok then:
QUOTE] What was the relative number of the forces of Gondor (Those who were at Minas Tirith at the beginning of the battle) at the Pellanor Fields? And of Mordor, including the Easterlings and Southrons, and Variags.
ooh, okay, i think i know this, however, dont be surprised if i get it wrong. erm, somewhere around, 5000?
however, they did say it wasn't quite enough, and they though they were going to get more if they could, or something. um, i sound really stupid, im just gonna post and stop talking |
oh and of Mordor, erm, 7000?
No, uh sorry. Gondor had less and Mordor had a lot more.
Weirdos
Go ahead Nefwathiel try to answer it. It's easy.
ten to one??? or something about a brigade to a company??
math was never my strong suit
Alright, forget it. I think it says Gondor had around 4,000 and Mordor 45,000. Someone else ask something.
Here's a question for YOU Dior.
WHY are you a jerk, sweetie?
WHY are you mean, WHY are you stupid, & WHY do you read things not meant for you? Who was the Son of Miriel, the first elf to die? |
Finwe was the first elf to die, killed by Morgoth, and he was Miriel's husband. Miriel's son was Feanor, and he killed many Teleri at the first kinslaying before he was killed by Balrogs.
Oh, and I'm sorry Nefwathiel that I stumbled across that thread, I should mind my own, uh, quiz things.
