Turin Turambar

Trivia on Tolkien's most tragic character.

What were the words on Turin's grave?

Bruce MacCulloch 02-21-2002 12:14 PM

Túrin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga
Nienor Níniel

Theodred21 03-01-2002 10:26 PM

I knew I could never outsmart you Bruce, go on!

Btw, sorry I haven't been around in a while.)

Bruce MacCulloch 03-01-2002 10:35 PM

Who were the two messengers from Círdan that Túrin met in Nargothrond?

Mat_Heathertoes 03-02-2002 06:01 AM

Arminas & Gelmir

Bruce MacCulloch 03-02-2002 06:09 AM

I suppose I'll give you credit for a right answer this time.
Your turn, Bree-Man.

Mat_Heathertoes 03-02-2002 07:02 AM

Let's see .. name the psuedonyms that Turin takes to himself or has given to him throughout his tragically short life?

Bruce MacCulloch 03-02-2002 07:24 AM

You would ask a question requiring a multiple answers.
Here goes:
Heir of the House of Hador
Woodwose
Neithan, the Wronged
Gorthol, the Dread Helm, one of the Two Captains
Agarwaen, the son of Umarth (which is the Blood-stained, son of Ill-Fate), a hunter of the woods
Adanadhel, the Elf-Man
Mormegil, the Black Sword
Lord of Dor-lómin
Wildman of the Woods
Turambar, Master of Doom
Dagnir Glaurunga

Bravo! Mr Macc, if you'd added Thurin, the Secret given to him by Finduilas in Nargothrond I'd have blessed you!

Bruce MacCulloch 03-03-2002 12:49 AM

I knew I was forgetting one!

Easy one:
Which of Túrin's companions was killed on the way to fight Glaurung, and how?

I happen to be reading the chapter on Turin right now. The answer to your question is Gwindor.

Joy 03-03-2002 02:33 AM

I forgot to answer how he was killed.

Gwindor was killed in a battle when Glaurung the Urolóki and the hosts of Morgoth was released.

Bruce MacCulloch 03-03-2002 02:39 AM

What I was looking for was the one that died in the ravine before Túrin killed Glaurung.

Turambar 03-03-2002 07:33 AM

Hunthor, "of the house of Haleth not the least valiant", was killed when a stone dislodged by Galurung struck him in the head.

Bruce MacCulloch 03-03-2002 03:57 PM

That would be correct. The question goes to Agarwaen, son of Umarth.

Turambar 03-04-2002 07:46 AM

What service did Gethron and Grithnir perform for Turin?

Mat_Heathertoes 03-04-2002 07:58 AM

Despite their advancing years they guided Túrin over the pass of Amon Darthir, through the Vale of Sirion and the Forest of Brethil and onwards to Doriath where they remained for a time as his guardians until Grithnir died and then Gethron returned to Dor-Lómin

Turambar 03-04-2002 10:30 AM

Correct !
