Rohan Trivia Game

Greetings all!

This topic is focused on trivia only about Rohan, though you may venture out to ask questions about its people.

First question:

Who was the founder of Rohan's chief city, Edoras?

Enjoy!

Ruitha 02-03-2004 10:53 AM

*grins*
Well, this isn't known for sure. It might be Eorl (indicated by the lotr Appendices' "(Eorl) chose for his dwelling a green hill before the feet of the White Mountains that were the south-wall of his land..."). Or, it may be his son Brego, as is stated in the Unfinished Tales.

Galadel Vinorel 02-03-2004 06:25 PM

Well, I was thinking of Eorl as the founder of Edoras. So, you got it right, Ruitha. Congrats! Your turn!!

Gil-Galad 02-04-2004 05:14 PM

there is a thread called Of Gondorians and Rohirrim... which is very similar to this, with exception of gondorians... but Sauceman will over rule me of course...

Ruitha 02-05-2004 09:48 AM

Well, I await Saucepan Man's judgement, of course, but until that comes here's one to think about.

Before it was gifted to Eorl, what was the land north of the White Mountains known as?

Gil-Galad 02-05-2004 04:32 PM

Calhenardhron(sp?)

The Saucepan Man 02-06-2004 06:42 AM

It's fine by me.

Galadel Vinorel 02-06-2004 10:01 AM

Thanks, The Saucepan Man!

Now...It's your turn, Ruitha, so please ask a question about Rohan.

Ruitha 02-06-2004 01:08 PM

Um, well, that was mine. I s'pose it was about Rohan before it actually became Rohan, so it maybe doesn't count ... but I'll let Gil-galad go anyway, as I can't think of another. (Calenardhon was the correct answer.)

Galadel Vinorel 02-06-2004 04:28 PM

Very well, go ahead Gil-Galad.

Gil-Galad 02-06-2004 04:34 PM

Name the place where two "royal" figures were slain

Arvedui III 02-06-2004 05:29 PM

Herm, Poros maybe? If I remember aright the sons of Folcwine fell in battle there.

Edit: As cool as it sounds, 'bell in fattle' doesn't make sense. Sorry.

Gil-Galad 02-07-2004 09:56 AM

nope

NightKnight 02-07-2004 10:29 AM

Edoras? Freca and Wulf were killed there. But so was Haleth, the son of Helm, who was more royal than both Freca and Wulf. Maybe Helm's Deep? Helm and his other son Hama both died there.

Gil-Galad 02-08-2004 01:46 PM

nope

NightKnight 02-08-2004 03:07 PM

Then I'll have to say Fords of Isen, I know Theodred fell there, but who else?

Galadel Vinorel 02-17-2004 11:15 AM

Since no one has posted here in quite a while, I will be moving this thread along.

Here is a new question:

What was the name that Eomer gave to Aragorn when they first met?

Have at it, mates! :D

nobody 02-17-2004 11:34 AM

Wingfoot

Galadel Vinorel 02-17-2004 11:57 AM

Good job, nobody! You got it right. Your turn! :D

Hey, wow! I just realized that this is my 300th post! YEAH!!! Oh yeah, uhaa! :D

nobody 02-20-2004 03:25 AM

What type of dragon was Scatha?

Thorongil 02-20-2004 03:44 AM

I think he was one of those wingless worms, like Glaurung.

nobody 02-20-2004 03:48 AM

That was quick! Correct.

Thorongil 02-20-2004 06:27 AM

What is the name of the wildman that the rohirrim received help from on their way to Rohan?

Firefoot 02-20-2004 06:42 AM

Ghan-buri-Ghan.

The Saucepan Man 02-20-2004 07:52 AM

Scatha wingless?

Sorry to interrupt, but I just had to comment on this:

I would say that is debatable at least - check out this thread: A Worm with Wings? (And please post any further thoughts there rather than here to prevent this thread going off topic.)

Back to the Quiz ...

Thorongil 02-20-2004 08:21 AM

Interesting thread... But there was no conclusion. I based my answer on the fact that i had heard of "Scatha the worm".
Anyway..the answer is right.

Firefoot 02-20-2004 06:27 PM

In what language did Eorl speak the Oath of Eorl?

The Perky Ent 02-20-2004 06:31 PM

Wasn't it spoken in the tongue of Eotheod?

Firefoot 02-20-2004 07:50 PM

Yep, Perky Ent got it. Please proceed.

The Perky Ent 02-20-2004 08:05 PM

Who was the Steward of Gondor who asked Eotheod for help in 2510?

NightKnight 02-21-2004 03:53 AM

That would have been Cirion.

Sleepy Ranger 02-23-2004 02:17 AM

Hello? Ent Guy?

Gil-Galad 02-24-2004 04:15 PM

*bump*

Galadel Vinorel 02-29-2004 10:44 AM

Moving along, I believe that NightKnight got that question right, unless someone can prove me otherwise. So, it's your turn to ask a question NightKnight.

Have at it folks. :D

Nirvana II 02-29-2004 10:52 AM

uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh..........NightKnight? *bump*

NightKnight 03-01-2004 01:25 AM

Uhm, yeah. Name the three that led the front eoreds to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

rutslegolas 03-01-2004 07:53 AM

i have two i think lets see one was elfhelm
the second one dernhelm
and the third one maybe eomer

Thorongil 03-01-2004 08:12 AM

Wasn't Dernhelm Eowyn? I doubt she led one. Theoden probably led one himself.

NightKnight 03-01-2004 08:14 AM

I don't count Theoden as leading one. And Dernhelm/Eowyn is wrong.

Thorongil 03-01-2004 10:56 AM

What about Erkenbrand?
