Elves at Helm's Deep

I didn't know where to put my question so I figuerd I'd put it here.

I was wondering if any elves survived at the Battle of Helm's Deep besides Legolas, because in the movie Legolas was the only elf that rode out with the rohirrom(SP) in the last charge.

Elrond of Rivendell 01-18-2004 04:29 PM

If you are speaking about the movies, I don't think so.

But: In the books, no Elves (apart Legolas, of course) took part in the defense of Helm's Klamm, which means that the issue of Elves in this battle is of no importance at all.

Greetings,
EfR

Helm's Klamm?

Oh... ok it's been awhile since I've read the books thanks clearing that up for me.

Oooh... Helm's Klamm is of course Helm's Deep ... I become influenced by the (German) movies

By the look of that shot in TTT where the Uruk-Hai storm through Helm's Deep after the breach of the wall and the causeway is taken. When Thoden, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and the surviving Rohirrim are in the keep, there wern't any elves, so we can assume they were crushed to a pulp (except for Legolas and his never-missing arrows!)

Well if you look hard enough there are elves fighting where the rohirrom where at the beginning of the battle (the hornburg is what it is called i think)

As Elrond mentioned since in the books no elves besides Legolas were at the battle of Helms Deep it doesn't really matter, but all the same I doubt all the elves would have been killed.

Well, like I've said before, PJ has been known to kill off random elves at inopportune times, maybe this was just his attempt at slaughtering a good deal of them..

Anywho, I think that it might have just been a slip-up in the movie, that no elves seemed to have come out alive, so perhaps we can just assume that none made it out. But see, if all was canon with the world, none would have been killed, for in the book, there are no elves at Helm's Deep.

*Pant pant* It took a long time to search, but I finally found the topic that discussed this in great detail. I know, sometimes it stinks to have a great discussion going and find it's already taken place. :P

The battle for Helm's Deep is over: all the Elves were killed?
