dunno why... Favourite Dwarves?
I would just like to ask a few people who their favourtie dwarves were.
Obviously many people would choose Gimli, or the 12 (or is it 13... i always get confused) that Bilbo joined in 'The Hobbit'. I would have to say that Dain is my favourite. He just seemed so much coooler than all the rest. 'Cept maybe Thorin Oakenshield... Sorry, i've chatted to long. Please contribute your ideas. |
Gimli is my favorite, too, after he showed his gentle side with Galadriel--awwww..."three hairs" And of course there was his inseparable bond with Legolas, a friendship that had never before existed between Elves and Dwarves.
My second pick would be Dori of The Hobbit. He delivered my favorite line of the book: "I can't be always carrying burglars on my back, down tunnels and up trees! What do you think I am? A porter?" |
I don't really have a favorite, but right now I'd say Loni Stormlegs as I'm being him in a RPG right now!
|
Id have to say Thorin Oakensheild. He died with honor!
|
I have a soft spot for Gloin, father of Gimli, and the one who uttered the wonderful line: "He looks more like a grocer than a burglar!"
|
My (rather unoriginal) vote has to be cast for Gimli son of Gloin. Not only did he become dear friends with a former adversary ([EDIT]: Well, I should not say 'adversary' - how about 'unfriend of a race he deemed untrustworthy'), a trait I always find touching in literature and cinema, he was also the valiant representative of dwarves in the hopeless diversion battle before the Black Gate, and did not fear to travel with Aragorn and Legolas through danger (the hunt for Merry and Pippin and the Battle of the Hornburg), horror (the Paths of the Dead) or despair (the battle before the Gates). Also, his Glittering Caves speech was particularly moving, and his recitation of Durin's Song.

Balin !!
Dear old Balin. Great guy. Always very nice to Mister Baggins. Curse the filthy Orc that shot him!! GROOARRRGHH!!! |
Gimli. Dain Ironfoot as a close second.
|
One of my very favourites is Azaghal, Lord of Belegost, who led his people to the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, who dug his knife into Glaurung father of dragons and was slain as a result. He showed the bond that could exist between elves and dwarves, and the ceremony at his death always brings a tear to my eye.
|
Balin. You can't go wrong with the rightful king of Moria.
|
I would have to say Gimli or possibly Thorin, although "He looks more Like a Grocer than a Burgler!" is one of My favourite lines in The Hobbit (up there with "good morning"). I must say though, this is a little unfair because aside from Gimli and Thorin and Company there really aren't to many to choose from.
|
My vote has to go to Narvi because...ah...well...you see...*looks embarressed*...IminlovewithCelebrimbor.
Ummm...*goes bright red*...yeah. Anyway, I trust Celebri's judgement, so if he's a good enough friend for my Elf, then he's good enough for me! |
Bombur
|
I would have to go for Thorin Oakensheild as my favourite however I also like Balin, and obviously Gimli is up there.
|
Definately Bombur, he's so cool and fat too! His laziness reminds me of.....myself :D .
its soo funny when he falls in the enchanted stream at mirkwood |
Dwarves favorite race.
My favorite person is no doubt Boromir, but Dwarves are my favorite race in general. Elves just seem snobbish to me, men, men are prone to seduction and desire power, dwarves they are my type of race they give you respect if you treat them with respect back.
A thing the movie didn't show was the relationship between elves and dwarves. Dwarves and noldor elves, being from Aule, have a connection, and were always friendly with eachother, thats why Galadriel and Gimli were always kind with eachother. Same with Rivendell elves, Elrond and Gloin grew a great respect for eachother, and Gloin was well known. Elrond from the movie sounded like he hated dwarves, well heck he hated everyone "dwarve's this, men are weak I hate them, heck I even hate my own elves." To answer the question of my favorite dwarf, I said it above, Gloin. Gloin had grown respect with his trip with Bilbo, he sat at Elrond's supper, and also talked the whole time with Frodo. Dwarves weren't always that friendly with hobbits but Gloin respected Bilbo and therefor respected his heir Frodo. |
Kili and Fili!!!! :D
|
Thorin Oakenshield, I would say, and then Gimli. Dain comes third for his title of Ironfoot.
LOL, Morgul Queen! Don't be ashamed! I think it's spiffy you adore someone who never made a movie appearance. I must say, I think Fingon rather dashing, possible Maedhros ere losing his hand... :D |
Fili and Kili. They gave up their lives for the love of Thorin. And they were young too. I would there was more about them in the book :)

Hehe... this thing [look upward!] is really something if you are Japanese, or if you value the Bushido, or simply if you watch Samurai Jack. My faves are Fili & Kili... 1, they've cute names 2. I value the Bushido, but I'm Filipino, I really like that 3. I love Samurai Jack |

Well my faves would be Azaghal of Belegost and Telchar of Nogrod, though Telchars people did betray the elves of Doriath...and began there fear of Ents...hrmmm yes...
|
My favourite dwarf is Gimli, I think he represents the spirit of all dwarves in general... But I also like Thorin Oakenshield, he's a very interesting dwarf!!,he is a funny and sad character , he is a king`s heir, but he never could become a king(he got a royal burial, though!)

I have no idea why, but I've always been rather fond of Dwalin...
|
trying to remember who it is...but in the BBC Radio production of the Hobbit one of the dwarves happily exclaims this line "Ah I smell freesh cut bread and butter!" I love that line and he becomes my favorite I love gimli too but I like this one too...its either fili or kili i think kili
so Gimli and Kili |
I would have to say Gimili
Mainly because he is the one that I am most famillar with, but also because he became such a great friend of Legolas, he had such a great personality, and also because of his love of the beauty of Galadriel (That is one of my favorite parts of LOTR). I also enjoy how the story of the fellowship is ended with Gimili and Legolas setting sail on a ship to go to the west. This just shows how their relationship changed their lives :) |
Gimli, he befriends an elf, and then beats him in an orc slayin contest!

Thorin the Oakshield-he lived with honor, fought with honor and died with honor (so poetic, don't you think). And plus,he was the leader of the dwarwes in difficult times (he says that at the beginning of The Hobbit).
|
fili and kili most deffinitely! cant believe they died :(
|
I would have to say Dori, because it seemed to me that he was the friendlist to Bilbo during their adventures. He seemed to look out for him and helped him in unhobbit friendly conditions.
