Different LOTR book editions
 

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but.. I've been thinking of getting the Red Leatherette Collector's Edition for some time but heard that it's "not as accurate" as the newer revised versions. To what extend is it "not as accurate"?

LOTR was released in two editions. In the second, Tolkien changed a few things. Thats my best guess.

I don't recall precisely (nor do I feel like digging through my books right now!!) but the forewords should tell you what changes were made and there significance. If memory serves, any recent changes will be so minor as to not even be noticed by most readers. I don't think you'll be missing anything substantial with any edition, as long as they have the appendices. fwiw

There is a new 'revised' edition, just out in the UK - but don't know how 'revised' it is. For instance, if the mistakes pointed out by Chrisopher Tolkien in the HOME series have been put right. But as has been said, generally any edition should contain the whole text. I don't think the red leatherette edition has the Alan Lee illustrations, though, which were part of Peter Jackson's inspiration for the movie, so you might want to consider the one with those.

I got the original book set. Had it for about 20 years.
