LOTR Halloween party!!

Hey guys, I'm having a Lotr halloween party, and i'm having trouble figuring out a costume. I'm gonna be Arwen, (duh, lol) and can't just go out and by a Arwen dress (cuz those cost a pretty penny that I don't have) so I'm trying to make do with stuff I have around the house, but nothing's right. Anybody got any suggestions??

what dress are you doing? the green one on the horse, or the white one in the "you are Isildur's heir" scene?

I also have to ask which one you are doing, green or white? Or just something which could be an elf dress in general?

Anything that could be an elf dress, but its looking like the colors will be black and red.

Well this may not help depending on where you live. I realize not everyone is from the US, but check out stores like K-mart they have Middle Ages type dresses you could use and they were 24 dollars or less the closer you get to Halloween. The elf ears were harder to find but some of the special Halloween costume stores that only open for this time of year had a pair for 10 dollars. I also found some spray on glitter for a nice touch, too. Goodluck!

Ah very cool, thanks elfling, I might try that!!!!!!! And yea I live in the US!!!

Yes, Arwen Evenstar the Fair, you should definitely go to Super Wal-Mart and look in the costume section. I bought a Juliet costume (from Romeo and Juliet) last year and it honestly looks just like an elf dress. I'm sure they'll most likely have what you need.

Also, make sure to wear rings and necklaces that look like they might be from that time period, of course. Elves were ornate, but not overly ornate, mind you. A small braid here and there in your hair also might give the whole costume a nice look.

The pattern for Arwen's dress is available from Simplicity but I can understand anyone not wanting to get involved in a stupid, huge sewing project. And it saves little money, anyway.

My suggestion, check out the second hand stores! They have loads of stuff! And Yes the elf ears are available at costume and party shops for around $10.

You probably don't want to sew your costume, but if you have time visitLotR Costume Research Page. This is the most complete and helpful page I've seen so far and has all kinds of different costumes, jewelry tricks, and makeup help.

if u are cheap and crafty (like me), you can make an awesome white dress with a bedsheet. take some pretty rope or ribbon and tie it around your waist and wind it around yourself. then get some satiny stuff for a stole. i know it sounds dumb but it is actually really cool a good place for a green jacket/dress is the salvation army thrift store.how are you gonna point your ears? LOL thanks for the tips guys!! No, I don't I'll be able to point my ears!!

Raefindel 10-20-2002 07:21 PM
