Thorin Oakenshield 05-10-2003 08:50 AM

do you know what kind of bow Legolas used

Meela 05-10-2003 09:07 AM

Swords are useful for two things:

Whacking people on the head and tripping people up.

(This makes no sense unless you've read my documentary, so ignore it but it is true, as Faramir found out...)

Thorin Oakenshield 05-10-2003 09:09 AM

you have a documentary on tripping people with swords?

Meela 05-10-2003 09:15 AM

It was v. brief, like one sentence...

Iarwain 05-10-2003 09:01 PM

Hehe. Legolas' bow was made in Lothlorien out of real elf hair (sort of gross, I know)

Thorin Oakenshield 05-11-2003 08:16 AM

what is so great about the Andúril?

Meela 05-11-2003 08:24 AM

well, its Narsil... (i think...) cut the ring from sauron's hand and all. pretty grand sword.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-11-2003 12:13 PM

isn't The Ring consitered a weapon?

MLD-Grounds-Keeper-Willie 05-11-2003 12:54 PM

Yes, sort of. I guess by Sauron, but I think he'd rather called it his wife . It can be considered a weapon, but a perilous one, it can also be considered a tool, but again, a perilous one.

Meela 05-11-2003 02:40 PM

Us down at Gondor see it as a weapon. And a good one at that.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-12-2003 06:02 AM

yes a dangerous but usefull weapon...

gothmog35 05-13-2003 05:28 PM

I believe Gandalf said that the rings of power were tools that gauged the power, will, and intentions of the bearer and then acted or enhanced upon ther desire to do an intended task. Whether it be as a weapon , to create, to protect etc.etc.etc.
So they could be a weapon but were much more multi-fasated than that.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 03:35 PM

so did Aragorn own the Andúril?

GaladrieloftheOlden 05-14-2003 04:08 PM

It was passed down to him, so yes, he did own Anduril.

~Menelien

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 05:31 PM

who passed it on to him?

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 08:22 PM

i forgot.....

GaladrieloftheOlden 05-14-2003 08:30 PM

Originally it was called Narsil, and it was the sword of Elendil. I don't know whether it was passed on to Isildur, or it was originally his sword. Anyhow, it was broken, and then Isildur cut Sauron's ring-finger off with the Shards of Narsil. They were passed through the generations, until Aragorn had it reforged by the Elves, and renamed it as Anduril. I think that's about right.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 08:31 PM

cool

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 08:34 PM

now lets talk about sting(very short history that i know of
All i know that Bilbo used it in many of his adventures, and he then passed it o to Frodo........ is there more behind this weapon?

Elfchick7 05-14-2003 08:36 PM

Hello!! How could ya'll forget Hadafang??? I know it's not in the books but it's Arwen's sword and Elrond uses it in the openig battle in the FOTR.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 08:38 PM

***!!! oh sorry... that reply came out of nowhere!lol o and what the monkey is Hadafang? never heard of it

Elfchick7 05-14-2003 08:44 PM

Ok. You know the sword that Arwen pull out in the "flight to the Ford" scene? That is Hadafang. It can also be seen in the begining of Fotr when Elrond is leading the army of elves into battle.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-14-2003 08:49 PM

oh i remember, thanks for bringing it up.

Elfchick7 05-14-2003 08:54 PM

Welcome.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-16-2003 09:18 PM

Now lets get back to Sting the sword.......

Thorin Oakenshield 05-16-2003 09:26 PM

so what is the history of sting?

The Saucepan Man 05-17-2003 08:18 PM

Sting was a short sword forged by the Elven smiths of Gondolin during the First Age. It was forged for use in the fight against Morgoth's armies and shone blue when Orcs were near.

After the fall of Gondolin, nothing is known of its history until it turned up in the hoard of William Huggins, Bert and Tom, the Trolls that Bilbo and company came across in The Hobbit.

Bilbo named the weapon Sting after he had used it to kill the Spider that had been trying to bind him in its webs in Mirkwood:

Quote:

"I will give you a name," he said to it, "and I shall call you Sting."
Bilbo passed Sting on to Frodo at Rivendell, and Frodo bore it on the remainder of his journey to destroy the Ring.

Thorin Oakenshield 05-22-2003 06:04 AM

So it came from the elves..........

Ophelia 06-05-2003 11:46 AM

Yup . It really came from the Elves .
And Bilbo Baggins and Dwarves found two more swords in a troll cave during the journey to the Lonely mountain . And as Elrond told , they had belonged to Western mountain Elves , the ancestors of his kin . They were made in Gondolin specially for the goblin wars . Torin's sword was nemed Orcrist , it means goblin cuter and there was another sword - Glamdring - the death of enemy . And as far as I got it it was given to Gandalf . But can't find where did Bilbo find he's sword . I'm too lazy to read but you can try finding it in "The Hobbit" .
And I know where you can order all (well maybe not all) LotR weapons , only they are ex-pen-cive .
Hope I helped somehow

... or you could try reading two posts up.

Ophelia 06-05-2003 03:59 PM

Damn!I must be too lazy .....
And forgive me my lazynes but in my book there is said that they found only two Elven swords and one was taken by Thorin and the other by Gandalf . And what was Bilbo's sword than?It was Elven allright . But it was not menchioned . Pleace light my brain up so I can feel the blessing of knowledge ........

Aragost 06-11-2003 02:00 PM

Where did you find out the name of Arwen's Sword?

Talon Stormcrow 06-12-2003 08:13 PM
