Join Rpgs
I want to join a RPG but I dont know how or where to start!
All the RPGs are busy! And none wants any hobbits!! That sucks....I want to RPG too... Someone know how?? PLEASE help me!! |
Post in The Green Dragon Inn (located in the Shire forum) in character (you can switch characters later if you wish). Get to know people and especially the Innkeepers, Piosennial and Child of the First Age, who are in charge of opening new games and helping to staff RPGs. Get a few posts under your belt and you'll find an RPG to join.

Think of a Hobbit character. Think about how old she or he is; think about what s/he looks like. Think about where she or he lives. Think about his or her family. Think about her or his friends. Then read some of the posts on the Green Dragon in the Shire Forum.
Then post here in character, and try and engage in conversation with some of the other residents. Talk about current stories and future possibilities. Make friends and influence people . And never forget from whence you came. Rimbé |
But there are other conversations between people in the Green Dragon Inn...
Shall I just write about something totally different, like: "Pippin walked to the bardisk and asked for a pint. He looked around and was a bit bored. There was no adventures for him going on and no adventure seemd to come either." Something like that or...? |
I'd highly recommend reading at least the last five or six pages of dialog, since any RPG that you join will expect you to do that as an absolute minimum. See if there are any conversations that you want to join. Ask people questions about who they are and what they do.
An important part of being invited to join an RPG is how hard you work at who you are, in The Inns. So take it seriously. If you write well at the Inn, you're much more likely to be asked to join a good game. And by the way, be sure that you read the introductory material and the guidelines. If you click on "The Barrow Downs" and then on "The Shire", you'll see the guidelines; they're in the first thread, with zero replies. [ March 06, 2003: Message edited by: mark12_30 ] |
Hi, Pippin--I'm Child of the Seventh Age, one of the moderators in the Shire who usually goes by the name of Cami Goodchild.
Please do come down and post in the Green Dragon Inn. New RPGs start about once every two weeks. We often have hobbit RPGs, and I know there are some on the planning boards. Just hang on and there'll be something for you. Cami, Shire Mod |
dont mean to butt in and use your post, but i have a question about RP. i once joined a RP, or tried to (on another forum) and it was rather a bad experience. my friend posted a reply to my character info that i posted and warned me that this was a serious place, and i wasnt to be stupid (this is v. offensive to me as i do actually have the required intellect to tell that a RP is slightly different from a jokey sort of forum (where i had previously answered some threads). also, some other people weren't exactly the most welcoming (not to be offensive but they dont exactly make you feel like they want you to join in).
all in all, ive ben kinda put off by RPs but i would like to join one, or in the future perhaps even start my own (considerably more welcoming and newbie-friendly) thread. is it ok for me to join a RP here? not a hobbit one, as has been discussed, but any in general (perhaps to do with Gondor). i would just like to know what exactly to do, like can i just add a post stating my character? or do i have to ask someone in particular or post in a particular place? thanks |
My advice to you is the same as I gave to Pippin. We have separate forums for "beginner", "intermediate" and "advanced" gamers. For information, check the Red Book thread in The Shire forum below (our beginners forum). Familiarize yourself with the rules and then check into The Green Dragon Inn (also in The Shire). There you will meet other gamers and can interact with them and our Innkeepers, Piosenniel and Child of the Seventh Age. The Innkeepers direct traffic, start up new games, help out inexperienced gamers and try to place them in new or existing RPGs. They also enforce our rules, but they are good people.
