Again, I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not.

I emailed my theater director about the possiblity of doing this play. This is part of what he wrote back to me.

How does one go about aquiring the permission to do something like this. Is it wrong just to do this as a fan-fiction? I do hope to take this further than that! What should I do? Does anyone have an idea or can point me in the write direction - pun intended?

Hmmm... I'd say, write it just for fun if you've the mind to do so. Then, look up the Tolkien estate in a search engine or try to find some better contacts to them and ask their permission to publish. Then, maybe, you could submit the play to a publisher and get it out in real print. It would be a long process, fraught with peril, but it's all I know about these sorts of things. Yes, just write until you get a piece elaborate enough to be reviewed by other people. Then you'll truly know whether you should go farther.
