Your Favorite LotR Swords
Do you have a favorite sword from the
movies? Mine is The Sword of the Witch King. Marroc Underhill |
Narsil. A pretty superior sword.
|
I really like Anduril, that is, Narsil re-forged. Sting is cool too. And even though Gurhtang was kind of an "evil" sword, it's pretty neat, too. There's something very intriguing about a sword that can talk.
|
My favorite sword is Anduril.
|
Arwen's sword is so cool! also I like Sting, and Narsil, and Glamdring... I just like all the swords!
|
Mine would have to be Anduril...since Aragorn is my favourite character...but Sting also comes close
|
Sting's my favorite. It gives the Hobbits (Bilbo and Frodo) a power that makes people admire them, even though they're such small creatures.
|
Narsil! I can't wait to see Aragorn actually use it in RotK! But Aragorns ranger sword is pretty neat too, as is Hadhafang, Arwen's sword. Go to lordoftheringsshop.com and look under swords and weapons to see all the LotR swords you can purchase!
|
For me, Gurthang is the most intriguing sword in Middle Earth. I always found extremely fascinating the fact that it was forged by Eol out of meteoric rock! It seemed to have a powerful will of its own, and it was certainly of magnificent craftsmanship. Just imagine wielding such a powerful blade
|
Ok, now I like almost all the swords. They're all very very cool! But my top favorite is Gandalf's sword. But of course I also like The Witch King's, Sting, and Narsil! I hope I get a sword one day!!! I'm going to ask my brother if I can have one of his!! He's got like 4!!! But anyway I love all swords. Especially the ones in LOTR!!!
|
Does it really have to be a sword ? If yes than I like Arwen's sword but if about all of the weapons than I prefer an axe . Really practical
|
Anduril (of course!) and Arwen's sword. I hope to one day get a replica of one of these! I am so jealous of those of you who do already.
|
Ok, all weapons, not just swords.
I like Strider's Bow and Gimli's Axe. Marroc |
In the movies my favorite sword is Anduril but Glamdring is a close second. I only wish it glowed like sting when orcs were near. In the books however Glaurung is the most interesting. I mean it was black. How many black swords do you come across. I think that would be one awesome and intimidating blade.
|
Sting! It glows blue when orcs are nearby. How cool is that? It's a sword and an alert system at the same time. I have a little Sting 3/4 scale miniture that I bought off some Tolkien store online. I use it as a letter opener, and to poke people with of course. I can't seem to figure out why it doesn't glow blue around my brother's friends though... must be broken.

I adore almost all the swords in the movie...I wish I had money to buy a replica!
Andúril and 'the Ranger sword' are both beautiful but I'd give my vote for the Sting due to it's inscription: Maegnas aen estar nín - dagnir in yngyl im '[the] sharp-point I am called - [the] slayer of spiders I [am].' or less literally:'Sting is my name, I am the spiders bane.' Both of Legolas's bows are awesome too, and Hadhafang and Glamdring and... |

Gurthang...was it Túrins sword? If it is I must agree with you.
|
Yes it is Turin's sword, although it was originally forged by Eol out of meteoric rock. Eol then gave it as tribute to King Thingol for allowing Eol to abide in his realm. Beleg Cuthalion chose it to be his weapon on his search for longtime friend Turin Turambar, who had gone into exile. Beleg Strongbow was struck down by Turin Turambar, who used Gurthang on him, mistaking Beleg for an orc. Turin slew Glaurung with Gurthang, as well as Brandir and many others, and alas impaled himself upon its cold black edge.
The sheer sadness of the story and the obvious cold and dark will of the sword (a remnant of the will of Eol its master) is what makes it so interesting to me. No other swords can compare to it personality-wise, save maybe Glamdring, the sword of Turgon wielded later by Gandalf. |
Yes, I also have always found Gurthang a fascinating sword, for the same reasons said above.
I also really love Sting. It's a small, but beautiful sword and has its own special role in both The Hobbit and LOTR. My sister was kind enough to buy me the replica (apparently she got off ebay for a real cheap price). Unfortunately, the stupid shipping people did not take good care of the sword and it came to me with the frame scratched (the box, which said "FRAGILE" was dented and had a hole in it) . Still, I enjoy admiring the beauty of the blade (it's so shiny :D ). |
I would have to say that Narsill and Sting are two very cool swords.
|
"Yea, I will drink thy blood gladly, that so I may forget the blood of Beleg my master, and the blood of Brandir slain unjustly. I will slay thee swiftly."
The sword Gurthang That's pretty dang awsome! |
Sting, the one and only singing sword in Middle-earth.
Close seconds would be the Ringwraith swords (all nine). Abedithon le, ~*~Aranel~*~ |
"Yea, I will drink thy blood gladly, that so I may forget the blood of Beleg my master, and the blood of Brandir slain unjustly. I will slay thee swiftly."
I agree, a talking sword is very intriguing. So I'd say Gurthang. Any sword that says 'I will drink thy blood gladly' must be brilliant, and it has an interesting tale to it's name. Coming second is Sting. It was useful to Bilbo and just as good to Frodo. A very trusty blade. |
It's got to be Andúril/Narsil and Sting.
|
Sting is #1, but Haldir's sword is a close #2!
|
I don't like that little dinky Sting, even if it does let you know when Orcses are near. I like the large, broad swords such as Aragorn's sword, Narsil, Glamdring. But this DOES exclude the swords of the bad guys, like the Ringwraiths. (They're the BAD guys!)
And here's a little story for those of you that don't have a lot of money. You can get a fair to middling reproduction of some LotR swords at a shop in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee for UNDER FIFTY DOLLARS. Granted, they're not the hugely expensive and high quality blades, but they're still very excellent. Narsil and Glamdring are both in the room with me right now, and I love 'em. If you are going to be in or near Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, or Gatlinburg, Tennessee, stop in at Sharp Edge and see Charlotte. (Tell her I said hi!) Don't go anywhere else, the deals aren't as good. |
I'll go with Sting.
Its small, it glows when orcs are nearby, and maybe it can fit inside my shoulder bag...very practical. hee hee other than that Glamdring is also a great sword. and aside from swords Legolas's bow and arrows are cool (and graceful with a 'twang!'). |
I really liked the swords Merry , Sam and Pippin got from Aragorn , even though I would like it better if they would have got them at the Barrow Downs
|
My fav sword would have to be Aragons Ranger sword, its awsome
|
I agree, Sting is amazing because it is a handy radar to tell you if Orcs are near. I like its color when it shows their presence...
I am also intrigued by Gurthang. However, when I read "Of Turin Turambar" in the Sil, that made me so depressed. It was Gurthang that killed Beleg, when Turin used it when he thought Beleg was an Orc. Beleg died from the hands of the one he loved the most. Also, it wounded Glaurung while he was lying down, unaware that Turin was creeping to him to kill him with it. And it talked, willingly taking Turin's blood to forget the blood of Beleg its master and Glaurung's blood, who was killed unjustly. Intriguing sword, yes, but it caused too much heartaches to be a favorite of mine. However, my favorite weapon is Aiglos, my husband Gil-galad's spear! I got to have it when he died...but I returned it to him when I returned to Valinor, before returning here. (Okay, it is not from LotR, but still...) Please forgive my craziness... |

I would have to say I like Arwen's sword the most.
Niluial |
I think i like Anduril or Narsil the most.
|
I love Arwens sword, so beautiful and graceful, and it's Elvish. I'm getting a replica from the Noble Collection, and they have a bunch of the other swords to.
|
Sting, of course! Small but powerful, particularly with the rage of a heartbroken Hobbit behind it...sorry, going off on a tangent.
Seriously, if that sword could talk...imagine the stories it could tell. I wonder who owned it before Mr. Bilbo found it? |
I love Arwen's sword! Sting is nice because it glows when Orcs are near. I love Legolas' bow!! I have a bow! I got a recurve, so it would be kinda elvish. It's so pretty! I love shooting it. Anyways, I really want to get a sword as well. If I lived in ME, I would carry a bow and a sword. A sword would be very useful for fighting when you're right upon your enemy, but a bow is good since you can use it from far off.
Arwen |
Yeah, it would be nice to be able to pick a few orcs off before they knew what was going on , then charge in sword drawn and go into a frenzy , you know, let off some steam . I want Strider's bow, that'd rock .
Marroc |
Sting is the coolest. So shinie, so bright.....
AND BLUE! Can't forget blue. (Okay, Oddwen so I spelled shine wrong But the Nasgules (now thats wrong too!)are pretty neat also. |
Hmmph! Well!
I like Sting and Herugrim, but I wish we could've gotten a better look at Guthwinë. |
