Months in Middle-Earth

If you look in the back of RotK, it has all of the month names as hobbits go by. But when Frodo is first taken to The House of Elrond, he asked Gandalf where he was.

Gandalf said he was at the house of Elrond on October the 24. Was that a mistake? Or did I read wrong in the book?

Please help. I am going INSANE over this!!!!!

Well, the appendices didn't come out until RotK, so he probably did that so no one would be confused, then didn't feel like changing it or something.

Quote:

The Hobbits, the Elves and the Dwarves all had names for months in their own languages.
October as in the quote you posted would be the months in common speech or Westron, like ours, which is the language of Man.
