i often wondered if there was a tape or website! all the books on tape seem to gloss over the singing!! How Annoying! i would dearly love to hear the songs! everyone says they fit different christmas carols but i never got it! did tolkien ever write the tune or is it someone elses attempt!

There is a book called 'The Road Goes Ever On', and there you have notes to many of the songs. I have heard itīs a very good book. I donīt know if Tolkien himself liked the tunes though.

There is also a CD called "The Starlit Jewel". It has 13 songs:
 • Elvish Lullabye
 • Song of the Eldar in Exile (O Elbereth Gilthoniel)
 • Hobbit Walking Song (The Road Goes Ever On and On)
 • Children's Song from Dale
 • In Western Lands (Sam's song from C. Ungol)
 • Galadriel's Lament
 • Troll Song
 • Lament for Boromir
 • Bath Song
 • In Durin's Day
 • Lay of Nimrodel
 • When Spring Unfolds (song of the Entwives)

I have this CD and listen to it all the time. Highly recommended! If you go to Amazon you can probably listen to samples.

The BBC radioplay has some of the songs in it--possibly the version of the Fall of Gil-galad you heard, Taure. Some of them aren't quite as good, but it's interesting to hear them put to music.

There's also this really funny music file that a friend sent me of Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd singing the "Hobbit drinking song"--kind of a combination of several of the songs from LotR.

I like "The March of the Ents" song! The tune is cool! YEs, I do have "The Road Goes Ever On", but I can't find it right now. But anyway, I shouldn't think it too hard to find on the market. But I wouldn't know, it was a gift to my dad from one of his friends, must've been 30 years ago now.

I have listened to the tapes, yes, the fall of Gilgalad is on there, I doubt that that was what Tolkien had in his mind, but who knows? I especially like the ent song as well, Too Isengard we come, with doom, we come...

Yes, it was the BBC. I am trying to use KaZaA to find the songs now.

The Tolkien Ensemble has 2 CDs A Night in Rivendale and An Evening in Rivendale. I found them at Barnes and Noble in the soundtrack section. They are really neat. I am looking for Starlit Jewel now.

This is for the Elijah lovers,
if you go to elijahwoodinc.com there is a LotR trailer where he sings the theme song to Hollywood.com, complete with actions, and he is soo cute in it and its really funni.
Just thought Id share.
Later!
