The Body Vanishes?
Just a random thought - what would happen if someone died while wearing the One Ring? Bilbo could have been accidentally killed with a sword or a rock in the Battle of the Five Armies, after all, and even if the Ring had stayed on Isildur's hand while he was fleeing, the Orcs might have seen the shape of his body disturbing the water. So would the body stay invisible, and the Ring invisible along with? Or did the effect disappear when life did?

Well, Kalimac, i assume that when someone died while wearing the ring, his body remained invisible... until it desintegrated... I don't know...
About Isildur, I guess the ring swept of his finger and orcs could see him, and kill him. Again, all I can say about this is pure assumption. Anunia |
I don't think that the Ring would remain on a dead body. It would slip of, I guess.

Because we know that the Ring had somekind of way of getting around, I guess that the wearer would stay invisible until the Ring found some way of rubbing againts someting, or slipping off (ect...) and then the corpse would be revealed, much to the dismay of the finder.
This is all just an assumption, though. Maybe, in retrospect, the Ring just stayed, invisible, with the Bearer until he or she was reduced to nothing... But because Tolkien never intended a Bearer to die, all we can do is guess... |
Since the Ring had a mind of its own, i am pretty sure that it would have fallen off or something like that. The Ring would not have stayed on a dead body, because there was not any hope of being retrieved by Sauron.

Exactly, Bombidillo. It is intelligent in its way and all it would have to do is change its size so it's bigger than the finger it's on.

i always thought that the ring only made a life force invisible otherwises the chain its on would be invisible!
therefore the moment the life leaves a body the corpse is again visible! But that's just me |
I imagine the body and ring would become visible, and the ring would fall from the bearer's hand.
