DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT COLOUR LEGOLAS' HAIR IS SUPPOSED TO BE IN THE BOOK?

HOW WERE THE ORCS MADE?

Rosa Underhill 03-04-2002 02:41 PM

I think Legolas had brown/dark hair in the books but I can't be sure on that. (I wasn't paying much attention when he was described.)

As for the making of Orcs: they were once elves but through torture and cruelty they were corrupted by Melkor and made into Orcs. Poor Elves.

I think this topic was discussed long ago on these boards, and this is what I remember from that discussion. I don't think that there are actually any concrete statements in Tolkien's writings regarding the color of Legolas's hair. But, based on his lineage (Sindar), it was assumed that his hair would be darker, or silver-grey. Any other "olbies" remember that thread?

Yes. The Teleri had dark or silver colored hair generally. However, Thranduil (Legolas' father) is described as having golden hair in the Hobbit. There is no definite statement about in LoTR about Legolas' hair, though someone mentioned a reference to JRRT describing the sun in his hair as creating a golden halo or something to that effect.

Istari, you will find an extensive thread on the origin of orcs in the "New Silmarillion" or Canon forum.

The only referance to Legolas' hair in LOTR is in the Fellowship page 456 Frodo looked up at the Elf standing tall above him, as he gazed into the night, seeking a mark to shoot at. His head was dark, crowned with sharp white stars that glittered in the black pools of the sky behind
