Today is the day

Did anyone of you notice that today is the day of Sauron's defeat?
Does anyone of you think about it more closely or do you think "well, whatever?"
In my opinion it's similar to dates like 8th May and other dates where something terrible has ended. I think it has the same meaning, only that it's not in real life.
Btw, I'm back after an abscence of about one month after fixing my computer-problems.

Rynoah, the Overly-Happy 03-25-2003 03:28 PM

Would that explain why I woke up at midnight wondering if someone had left cheese under my bed?

In all seriousness, I didn't know until you just pointed it out. Now that I think about it, I don't think there's any significance in the date. I'm not one to take the anniversary of something terrible (or joyous, as may call for in this situation) happening and tack on meaning to it.

I knew the New Year was sometime soon! I kept meaning to check, but I forgot. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*streamers and ballons and confetti fill the air*

I wonder what year of the seventh age it would be...

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...... ok i didn't know that was today. cool

Balin999 03-26-2003 06:22 AM

Well, after mourning Sauron, I had to wonder about Iarwains signature. Do you know what it says?
Maybe it's an "insider", but I don't get the meaning of it, and I'm from Austria
So, what does it mean?

Estelyn Telcontar 03-26-2003 06:58 AM

Balin, it's a mistranslation of "Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow". Apparently the word for booting a PC was used, which makes it quite funny!

Oh, and welcome back! Nice to see you again!

Meela 03-26-2003 10:46 AM

what happened on 8th May?

Lush 03-26-2003 11:13 PM

*cheeks turn red*

(stupid Systran!) time to change my signature...

Beruthiel 03-26-2003 11:59 PM

Isn't it supposed to be the 25th?
EDIT: oops my mistake I didn't realise that the thread was opened on the 25th

I completely forgot about this thread. Thansk for the answer estelyn and well this is really funny. I can't remember what Iarwain's quote was like, but I remember that I got really confused by it hehehe.
(don't want to make fun of you iarwain, it's just, it really was funny )

GaladrieloftheOlden 04-06-2003 03:35 PM

8th of May- dunno. 8th of March is womens day, though.

Iarwain 04-06-2003 04:00 PM

8th of may, D-Day wasn't it? By the way, I sadly used that wretched translator for my next signature, It was supposed to say "ever wandering" in french, but instead it produced "Jamais errant", which means never wandering. My current one, I hope, means "a wandering troubadour scorned by all".

P.S. Thanks for the age, Beren!

I just wanted to say for Iarwain's sake that the Seventh Age supposedly started Jan 1st 2001.

Balin999 04-07-2003 06:48 AM

8th May has nothing to do with any women's day or with D-Day, though Iarwain was more or less close.
8th May is the date of the ending of the second world war in Europe.

and D-Day was on 6th of June

Arwen Evenstar the Fair 04-07-2003 01:30 PM

Hey thats cool, I forgot about that, Happy New Year!! lol btw welcome back Balin999!

Balin999 04-07-2003 01:56 PM

thankies arwen, although it's been a while since the thread was created
Hm, I would like to know how Gandalf felt after he saw Sauron going up in a great cloud and being taken away by the wind....
*Now, that's been a fine day. And now for some pipe-weed. Sheesh! Frodo!*

Meela 04-07-2003 01:59 PM

The war ended? which one? The second World War or whatever? Im studying that in history. Kinda dull.

Iarwain 04-19-2003 03:48 PM

Stupid me, I should have known 8 May was V-E day! Ah, well, I suppose I'll remember that for a while now.

Iarwain

P.S. Meela, the Cold War's a bit more interesting: a greater focus on Communism. Not that I am or anything...
