Dwarven Weaponry

other then the cleashet of axes what kind of weapons did the dwarves use?

O'Boile 07-24-2002 01:28 PM

I think they had warhammers that they also used.

steve 07-24-2002 02:39 PM

thanks

steve 07-24-2002 02:45 PM

what would u call someone who wielded a maul/warhammer?

Sarin Elfarmour 07-24-2002 03:39 PM

i dont know but you guys seem to have forgotten swords such as orcrist which Thorin Oakensheild used in the battle of the five armies.

steve 07-24-2002 03:51 PM

yea, but swords dont seem to fit dwarves, in my opinion i mean

Mithadan 07-24-2002 04:17 PM

Dwarves also used two handed mattocks.

gayare'dion 07-24-2002 07:35 PM

probobly any type of heavier weapon, like an axe or a lance. its kinda hard for me to imagine a dwarf with a sword, unless he was taller, or a dwarf archer

steve 07-24-2002 09:03 PM

its hard for me to imagine a dwarf with a bow, a crossbow i could see, but not like a long bow or a war bow and what is a mattock, like what does it look like

Dimaldaeon 07-25-2002 07:15 AM

In the Hobbit it mentions Dwarves ussing short broadswords. I imagine that a Dwarven sword would be like a Roman Gladius, a 22" blade designed to be thrust into the chest piercing the spinal cord

Aldagrim Proudfoot 07-25-2002 08:45 AM

The Hobbit does talk about Dwarves using regular bows. Plus, would they have set mechanical traps?

Mithadan 07-25-2002 08:50 AM

Dain's army is described in The Hobbit as carrying mattocks which are mining tools similar to picks, possibly modified to serve as weapons.

The Silver-shod Muse 07-25-2002 12:14 PM

A warhammer sounds awfully unwieldly, though I can see short-swords and mattocks being used.

Kuruharan 07-25-2002 12:29 PM

I suppose that if you knew how to use a warhammer it would be effective. Don't forget that Dwarves are stronger than Elves or Humans so they would be better able to control some weapons that we might think are unwieldy.

Sarin Elfarmour 07-25-2002 02:55 PM

I agree, though Orcrist was an elven blade and was probably longer than 22",

Sarin Elfarmour 07-26-2002 03:02 PM

in some cases the dwarves might have used watever was handy like when Thorin used an oak branch as a sheild in the final battle of the war against orcs, earning the name "Oakensheild"

burrahobbit 07-26-2002 03:20 PM

Keeping in mind that a Dwarf made Aragorn's sword.
