Ents at war!

in TTT fangon says he hasnt seen the ents so roused since the wars between the dark lord and the men of the sea(im gessing this means numenor) so what part did the ents play in this war?

mordor136 12-01-2002 05:50 PM

Hmmm I dont really know but I'll try to find out.

Interesting I will try to find out. I love ANYTHING when Ents are involved, especially when they fight. Everytime I read the description of the fury of the Ents in TTT I cry for joy.

They may have took part in the war of Sauron vs Elves, since he burnt a lot of Eriador's forests.

Yavanna to Manwe:

Quote:

Would that the trees might speak on behalf of all things that have roots, and punish those that wrong them!'
Manwe to Yavanna:

Quote:

When the Children awake, then the thought of Yavanna will awake also, and it will summon spirits from afar, and they will go among the kelvar and the olvar, and some will dwell therein, and be held in reverence, and their just anger shall be feared.
Yavanna to Aule:

Quote:

'Now let thy children beware! For there shall walk a power in the forests whose wrath they will arouse at their peril.'
Spirits among the olvar = ents, yes? Looks like they have been battling one dark lord or the other for at least as long as anyone else.

I've always thought the story of the Entwives was pretty sad.

thank you very helpful but apart from a coment from treebeard is there any evidence about ents involved in numenors war against sauron where they on any 1s side as both were coresing great damage to there homes as the numenoreans where makeing ships from the trees of the forests of m.e.

I'm pretty sure that there is a quote somewhere that says that every creature, with the exception of the Elves, fought on either side in the Last Alliance.

the witch king 12-03-2002 02:02 PM

im not talking about the l.a. i think the comment is talking about ar-pharazon or some other NUMENORIEN king in the 2nd age before the downfall against the dark lord befor he lost(maybe made) the ring

Manwe Sulimo 12-03-2002 03:05 PM

It could very well have been the Last Alliance (after all, Elendil & Co. were all Númenórean), but I tend to think it was when Sauron overran all of Middle-earth except for Rivendell and Lindon. That was probably when the Ent-wives were separated from the Ents.

Anyone else notice this entry in the Tale of Years?

Quote:

[March] 11 Gollum visits Shelob, but seeing Frodo asleep nearly repents. Denethor sends Faramir to Osgiliath. Aragorn reaches Linhir and crosses into Lebennin. Eastern Rohan is invaded from the north. First assault on Lórien

[March] 12 Gollum leads Frodo into Shelob's lair. Faramir retreats to the Causeway Forts. Théoden camps under Minrimmon. Aragorn drives the enemy towards Pelargir. The Ents defeat the invaders of Rohan.
Who else thinks that is incredibly cool?

Keneldil the Polka-dot 12-03-2002 03:34 PM

Yeah it's cool. Especially since March 12th is my birthday

To my knowledge the only other time (except from the war of the ring), the ents are mentioned fighting is when they aided Beren in attacking the dwarves who caused the fall of Doriath and stole the Nauglimir with the Silmaril.
