The House of Finwe

Finwe had many descendants, as most of you know. Galadriel's a descendant, so Arwen must be too, since she is the grandaughter of Galadriel. So would Eldarion be considered a descendant of the High Kings of the Noldor since he is Arwen's son?

Kuruharan 06-14-2002 06:51 PM

Yes. However, he is also descended from the High Kings of the Noldor (aside from Finwe) through Elrond, as Elrond's ancestors were Fingolfin and Turgon.

Yeah, that's true. But a man (well, half-elven) considered a descendant of the High Kings of the Noldor is kinda weird of you think about it! All the way from Finwe, Feanor the proud, and all of those high elves are traced all the way down to him. Well, Aragorn is a king of men, so there's honor there too!

akhtene 06-14-2002 07:25 PM

Right, and who was he then? Just mortal? And what about other descendants from mixed marriages? It's clear with Elrond and Elros. But what about Dior, Earendil and ELwing? Were they considered human or elven?

Kuruharan 06-14-2002 08:03 PM

He was not decended from Feanor. He was descended from Fingolfin and Finarfin. Feanor's line in Middle earth (as far as we can tell) died out with Celebrimbor.

TarElendil 06-14-2002 08:10 PM

Dior Earendil and Elwin were considered Peredhel (half-elven)
Though dior and elwing werent half man half elf.
earendil was half noldor and half Man (house of beor and hador)
Dior was half man(house of beor), 1/4th maiar,1/4th elven.
elwing was 1/4th Man,1/8th maiar,and 1/2 elven.
eldarion was descended from finwe as well as all the line of elros (numenorean kings) they were also descended from the Maiar Melian and King thingol, which is rather ironic to me for thingol had little love for Men at first

Aragorn, too, is a descendant of Finwe through Elros, Elrond's human brother.

Thank you all for replying. It's nice to see how involved everyone gets. I wish that my sister now could get into this! She doesn't know what she's missing!

Wouldn't that make Arwen and Aragorn related then. Well very very very very verrrrrrry distantly related. Elrond and Elros were brothers (Tar Elendil has gone through all of that!) and Aragorn is a descendant of Elros, very distantly, but still related! Wait......well, no maybe not directly from Elros. There were lots of kings and queens who were not directly descended from him. Well, Tolkien sure thought all of it through! It's like a history book!

yes, i figured one would have the common sense to realize that through my chart but i was obviously wrong, as i see some dont.
aragorn was descended from elros from a line of father to tar-elendils daughter down the lords of andunie then the chief dunedain.

Well, err..., yes!

Yes, TarElendil. It seemed to me that they needed someone to paint it on a billboard.

I've been reading LotR to my younger sisters, and when I read them Arwen and Aragorn's love story in the appendices and later showed them the family trees from the Sil, they figured out that the two were related and made a huge stink about it .
