I enjoy reading - what are your favourite genres/books?

I love either historical books (such as Mao's Great Famine, Trotsky, Northern Ireland an Orange State) or detective style novels (such as Jack Reacher, Jeffery Deaver) or both (such as Martin Cruz Smith or Child 41/The Secret Speech)

Thoughts?
Opinions on Jo Nesbo?
What are your favourites? http://www.frou.info/g.php

Jessy, the "Books" subforum is dedicated to discussion of Tolkien's books.

A similar thread to yours already exists here. It's pretty in-depth.

Moderator's note:

I'm afraid a general discussion of all kinds of books would get us too far off-topic. The above-mentioned thread on fantasy literature is a good place to discuss books that have some proximity to Tolkien's works.
