Good stuff! It's fascinating to see such an illustration of how the Downs has grown over the years, yet has still stayed basically the same in many respects.
I'd forgotten about Mister Underhill being quoted in that Newsweek article (on the Feb. 01 2001 page). It was about the (then) upcoming movies, I think. The writer of the article had been posting here under the name "deving" or "devin", or something like that, I believe, wanting Tolkien fans' opinions about the movies.
