Suggestions on Hobbit voiceovers

I rather liked the FOTR voiceover. For TH movie might they
use one for each movie, but at the end of each movie, not
the beginning. I was originally thinking the first should stop
as Thorin and Co. enter Mirkwood and the White Council occupy
Dol Guldur, but in reading Tom Shippey's J.R.R. Tolkien
he notes that the book divides itself pretty much in half

Quote:

into the adventures which Bilbo and the dwarves have
before they reach the Lonely Mountain and the lair of Smaug
the Dragon; and the complexities surrounding the gaining, guarding
and sharing of the dragon's treasure once the Lonely mountain has
been reached.
Following this division you could have someone (Kate Blanchett-if
she's not in the movie she wouldn't even half to travel to do the
voiceovers). As was done in the LOTR movies, you could borrow from
other sections to have her say something like:
Quote:

Now began the most dangerous part of all the journey. They
turned from the light that lay on the lands outside and [sought for
the hidden passage into the dragon's lair].
An accompanying comment would tell about Gandalf riding to the
aid of Bilbo [sigh---probably riding Shadowfax] while you'd see him
bidding farewell to the White Council (perhaps with Saruman giving him
a dirty look no one notices).
I think I'd prefer the movie to end with the Thorin & Co. voiceover.

The concluding voiceover would be at the end of Part II. Unlike ROTK
I think the Hobbit ending should be included in the movie. If well done,
and, let's face it, PJ did some things well, including picturing the Shire,
it could be a nice folding in of TH and LOTR movies with the Shire the
connecting thread. In a few years you could have a five movie marathon!

Btw, I thought a better, more realistic Lobelia would have been/would be
the cranky woman in FOTR who disapproves of the hobbit children getting to
see some fireworks.

So. you're producing the movies. Beginning voiceovers, ending, or
none at all?

Well of course we need them! "Ina hole in the ground lived a hobbit" But either Gandalf or Bilbo..... Or maybe even Elrond But I think Bilbo is best because the Red Book is written by him.

I have long though that Ian Holm should narrate even if he didn't play Bilbo (he won't). The BBC radio version featured Bilbo interacting with the narrator and it was quite charming. Having Bilbo narrate accounts for discrepencies with LotR: This they way Bilbo remembers it (except White Council/Dol Guldur which he didn't see), not necessarily the way it happened. Sort a "There and Back Again" + "The Hobbit" type of feel. It also makes it more personal and less epic, further differentiating it from LotR.

Well not an entire narration but just the beginning and end...

As for the BBC Radio Version: LOVE IT listen to it all the time... my fiance broke disc three by accident though:(:(

EDIT I'll do it :D
