Palantiri Lawn Ornament

So, I'm cooking supper this evening and as I looked out the window, I noticed the neighbors chrome-surface mirror ball in the back yard (You know what I'm talking about, right?).
And I thought, "That looks like a Palantiri... who would use one of them as a lawn ornament?" and immediately figured Tom Bombadil would.

Just thought I'd share that.

Perhaps old Tom just wants whoever may be watching to hear his hit songs. :p After all, Old Man Willow probably makes for a terrible audience.

Boo Radley 08-08-2009 09:18 PM

True. And Tom isn't a person who lets an objects importance color his opinion of it. Probably would use Galadriel's Mirror for a bird bath.

That's so easy to visualize it's scary. Then again, I'm sure an ordinary hobbit would do the same, only they wouldn't know the importance, just how much their garden needs sprucing up.

Well, at least it isn't dwarven lawn ornaments. I don't think Tom would touch those.

Boo Radley 08-10-2009 06:06 PM

Would he confuse them with garden gnomes?

Lawn ornaments

I'm new here, but I think that yes he most certainly would! By the by, I've noticed the Palantir phenomena too, is Feanor out there making duplicate seeing stones for people to stick in their lawns or something like that? Just a thought...

You see as a condition of his release from Mandos he had to agree to make the Maiar and Valar Palantiri to watch the lives of today's mortal since they're not allowed to visit us any more. Pretty soon word spread to all of the elves and now Feanor runs a thriving business manufacturing lawn ornaments that allow elves to spy on the owners. ;)

Good Soap! So it's not the government spying on us after all. I knew I shouldn't have trusted those elves!

You'll be fine as long as you don't have any bright, shiny jewelery in your house. ;)
