Fingolfin and Ringil
I was wondering if anyone had information on Fingolfin, and his sword Ringil. I've read LoTR, Silmarillion, UT, and LT1+2, and found relatively little information on him. I'm interested in anything on him, but mostly in Ringil, his sword. Such as when it was wrought, the type of sword, anything. Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any text which would tell us more about Ringil, Fingolfin's sword. However, I can at least provide you with an approximate translation of the name: 'ring' = cold, 'gil' = star.
It should also be noted that in early versions of the Silmarillion, such as the Books of Lost Tales, the name Ringil was used of the southern Lamp of the Valar. (I think its name was Ormal in the later versions.) |
Yes, and the northen one was Helkar. Maybe somebody will find some info on Ringil + Fingolfin. Keep trying and thanks.
