Isildur dissed in movie?

This is a minor commentary on an aspect of
the film FOTR, somewhat exasperating because I
think the picture of Isildur in the movie, both in the
prologue and in other allusions and views of him later
in the movie, are unneccesarily dismissive and, i think, inaccurate.

While listening to a cd of The Silmarillion I noticed this
positive exploit of Isildur in the Akallabeth
(after Amandil worried about Sauron's influence
on Ar-Pharazon)
Quote:

...Isildur said no word, but went out by night and did a deed
for which he was afterwards renowned. For he passed alone in
disguise to Armenelos and to the courts of the King, which were now
forbidden to the Faithful; and he came to the place of the Tree, which
was forbidden to all by the orders of Sauron,...and Isildur passed
through the guards and took from the Tree a fruit that hung upon it,
and turned to go. But the guard was aroused, and he was assailed,
and fought his way out, receiving many wounds; and he escaped, and
because he was disguised it was not discovered who had laid hands
on the Tree. But Isildur came at last hardly back to Romenna and delivered
the fruit to the hands of Amandil, ere his strength failed him.
And also recall (in Unfinished Tales) his matured realization of error in
thinking he could use the Ring. There he is depicted much more
sympathetically, and likeably as someone willing to grow and
admit errors.

At least a faint glimpse of this Isildur might have been shown (assuming
PJ and friends had had an interest in doing so- a rather large assumption)
merely by showing some debate or hesitation with the Ring before keeping it
and a somewhat less Boromir type portrayal of him in the prologue.

Someone with only a movie knowledge of Middle-earth would think
Isildur was a sort of doofus Dark Ages type chieftain- not one of
the Faithful Numenoreans. It is irritating to me because it would have been
just as easy (I think) to portray him more accurately.

While Peter Jackson doesn't show us his hesitation of keeping the Ring (he doesn't show us his willingness to keep it either for that matter ;)) he does show us a brief moment of Isildur debating with himself whether to put the Ring on. Remember when the orcs ambushed Isildur and his men Isildur rips the Ring from his neck and hesitatingly puts it on his finger.

While I never considered Isildur to be entirely bad, I doubt it would be worth a flash back to when Isildur collected the seeds from the white tree.

Thanks. I noticed that in the past when watching FOTR (the only one of
the three movies I really rewatch) but had forgotten it when posting above.
Yes, I do like that hesitation.
