Posting Question

Hey admins! I have a quick posting question - if I wanted to start a thread that I did not want people to reply to, so in other words a closed thread I suppose, could I do that?

Thanks!

Uh...why would one do that? Some kind of announcement?

Durelin 02-14-2008 03:30 PM

I expect only admins and moderators have the permission to close threads.

I refer the honourable gentleman to the title of this board:

The Barrow Downs Discussion Forum.

Replies are assumed, otherwise it is not a discussion. The only exception would be to state or restate forum rules, I suppose.

Yes, as Hookbill says, this is a discussion board. Even mods/admins only close threads if there is a reason to do so - for announcements that need no reply, or when the posting gets rancorous. If you wish to write something publicly to which your readers cannot reply, use your blog and disable the "comment" function.

Haha, well I would want to announce an important day in LotR history.

Estelyn- how would I do that? Thanks!

Matthew, I guess I was assuming that you have a blog - which may not necessarily be the case. At any rate, since you are not an administrator or moderator of this site, you may not make announcements by way of closed threads. However, in the past there have been a number of threads concerning important dates in Tolkien's life (the annual birthday toast, for example) or from the books; other members are free to reply as they wish, to share their own thoughts and opinions on whatever announcement you would like to post.
