Tolkien on "The Archers"

I know there is at least one other listener to this everyday story of country folk (set in a ficticitious county based on Warwickshire) ,on the downs. And yesterday Tolkien got a mention - Phil, one of the characters has just returned from NZ and his grandson said about LOTR being filmed there to which grumpy Prof Lloyd replied that you would be better off visiting Oxford if you wanted to discover the inspiration for Tolkien's mythology and Phil countered drily "or studying Old Norse" ..which is probably truer.

Anyway this little exchange inspired this thread on the other board I haunt which might be of interest

My dad loves The Archers, though I have never listened to it (that I can recall).
