Hobbit Hair!

What's your take on it?

Many artists depict it extremely short and curly like little cherubs with Hobbit features...others like Jackson (in which I prefer) depict it long and curly.

How do you see Hobbit hair?

The Hobbit describes the hair on their feet as similar to "the stuff on their heads (which is curly)". I would expect your first description to be accurate.

Any other opinions?

I just see it as messy hair - neither dead curly nor straight.

I absolutely HATE these depictions of Hobbits of useless, dumpy, ugly little cabbage patch kids. They make me yak. Not only are they supremely unattractive but they demean the Hobbits. Yeah, we know they are little people, so why lay it on with a trowel? I'm thinking of those grotesque Hildegard Brothers drawings - or however you spell their name. Vile.

One of the things Jackson did get right was to simply show them as smaller and more eccentric Men.

I agree with Lal. Hobbits aren't teddybears.

As to their hair's length, I guess it depends on the hobbit... ;)

Agreed! I especially dislike Ingrid something's depictions of them.

I think Jackson's representation was great. It was made out of Yak hair, and neither too messy nor too kempt. Not too dirty, but not some glossy girly mop either.

I also can't stand Ted Nasmith's way of depicting hobbits. I am a fan of Nasmith, but the hobbits are just...ah.

Actually, as I've been watching a bit of Glastonbury coverage on telly (I'm too old for going to the toilet in a trench and mud bathing so it's telly for me) I've noticed just how many young guys these days have Hobbit hair. So all the Hobbits are kind of Indie guys, whereas Men have hair that's more like Kurt Cobain, grunge era. ;)

Haha, I think the same thing about the Men's hair (in specific Boromir and Aragorn) in the films (which isn't the way I picture theirs)...completely Kurt Cobain style, especially Boromir's. Pin straight and all, chin length. It actually gets me angry, as Jackson should have given his grunge tribute to a different character than Boromir. I'm a huge Cobain fan, but not on my favorite character!

I kept waiting for Boromir, Aragorn and Eomer to play air guitar on their swords. Eomer was more metal though, while Boro and 'Gorn were more Grunge. Faramir looked more like he'd be into noodling 70s rock. Frodo and the Hobbits were all-out Indie boys :D

There just has to be an unseen out-take somewhere of them playing air guitar on swords? You just would, wouldn't you? ;)

Haha, Eomer definitely was more metal. To your question...it isn't unimaginable!
