Other good Tolkien fansites?

Don't worry, I'm not planning to leave the Downs, definitely the last thing I'd do.
But still, I have a question:
What other good Tolkien fansites can you recommend me? (except the Plaza)
I like this place, but I'd like to try out some other ones too, maybe get to know other fans.
I'm looking forward to hearing your answers. :)

JUDAS! QUISLING! MICHAEL MOORE IN THE 2000 ELECTION!

Nah I'm just kidding, what's this plaza you speak of? I'm also a member of theonering.com messageboard if that's any help to you it's quite good

Legate of Amon Lanc 03-25-2007 02:24 PM

Et tu, Brutus?

That's really... backstabbing. I feel betrayed :(

Nah, I get your point... though...

No, I still cannot understand. There is nothing better than the Downs, how could you, how could you...? (hysterical tone) So we are not good enough for you any more? You think I don't see where this is going? You find another community, first only to look there from time to time, then more often, and in the end, you'll totally forget about your fellow Downers! What about me? I've given you the best days of my death! Is that it, then? Four months, thanks a lot, pal, I'm off. No sort of regrets? Not so much as a lump in your throat?

But in answer to the question, I don't know any other good worldwide LotR community - or at least not any I would know enough and have such a good meaning about it to recommend it. The Downs is, of course, the best LotR community on the internet, we all know that, and there is no information you couldn't obtain here, and the folks who are not here must be crazy - or unlucky not to have yet found the best community

"How Very Dare You!" Michael Moore is great! Or do you mean that? ;)

But seriously, what sort of fansites do you mean The Might? Forums? Or just info sites? Random mad stuff? The bonus of course with the Downs over the many way bigger sites is that it is very simple and straightforwards to follow - for example I just hate it when sites divide books discussion up into the different volumes of LotR. And searching is as easy as anything I've seen. And just how much time does anyone have in a day to discuss Tolkien all over t'internet?

Don't answer that...

Well...I must admit I was expecting such...interesting...reactions, still don't exagerate.
I was just asking for other interesting places, not necessarily forums, that have to do with Tolkien, though if there are lore discussions I'd definitely be happier.
And as I said, I'm not leaving.

Well, Tolkien sites have calmed down quite a bit of late  :p ......Sci Fi Fandom http://www.sf-fandom.com/vbulletin/index.php?
has Tolkien and the Inklings forum for book discussion
http://www.sf-fandom.com/vbulletin/f...splay.php?f=12 and a Lord of the Rings movie forum also.
http://www.sf-fandom.com/vbulletin/f...splay.php?f=32
The site is Michael Martinez's. www.michael-martinez.com

Barrow Downs is the most fun, beautiful, and full Tolkien site! :)

OK then, here's a few crackers:

The Tolkien Society:

http://www.tolkiensociety.org/

Encyclopedia of Arda:

http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/default.asp

Couple of very useful language reference sites:

http://www.rialian.com/quenya-english.htm

And a superb, comprehensive site for book collectors:

One of my absolute favourites is Flying Moose of Nargothrond - the Tolkien Sarcasm Page is brilliantly humorous, with parody artwork and lots of stories, crackpot theories, and more goodies.

I looked through my Tolkien bookmarks, and though I have lots of sites listed there, I actually spend very little time looking at them. After all, I need to check out so many other interests in the internet - yes, Tolkien is not my only hobby!

*wanders off to read the baby polar bear's blog, or maybe browse some new patchwork patterns, or check the Georgette Heyer forum, or see if Lindsey Davis has a new Falco book out, or...

Some other favorites....Tolkien's Linguistic Cellar, or the Glittering Caves.

Also, some great websites for poking around for Tolkien books: Daeron's , ADC and The Tolkien Shop.

Best sites for Tolkien news are Tolkien News & Tolkien Library. You can set up RSS feeds for both too.

Also Tolkien.co.uk & the Tolkien Estate sites - when they get up & running....

Lalaith 03-26-2007 12:04 PM

*psst*
Esty, tell me about Georgette Heyer forums....

davem 03-26-2007 12:08 PM

Also this page - not a site, but I expect all fans who haven't done so will want to enter this competition to win a signed copy of the de luxe edition of Children of Hurin signed by Christopher Tolkien & Alan Lee.

Code is 'Hurin' & answer is 'signed'.
