History of Middle-earth Index
Hi,
there is a book called "History of middle-earth: Index", published by HarperCollins, which contains a compiled version of all the 12 HoMe-Indices. Does anyone know if this book matches the Houghton Mifflin editions of HoMe? Or in other words: Do the Houghton Mifflin editions of HoMe have the same page arrangement as the HarperCollins editions? |
I highly doubt that they do. Do you have Houghton Mifflin hardcover printings? I have the HarperCollins paperback editions of War of the Jewels and The Peoples of Middle-earth. Does "The Later Quenta Silmarillion" begin on page 173 in your Houghton Mifflin WotJ?

Sorry, I do not have any Houghton Mifflin editions, just a few HarperCollins editions.
I just wondered if the Index matches or not, cause I possibly will purchase some Houghton Mifflin editions. Maybe someone else here has a Hougthon Mifflin edition and can shed light on this? |
Well, having checked the Contents page of Houghton-Mifflin's p/b of Return of the Shadow on Amazon's 'Search inside' function & compared it to both Lal's Harper Collins p/b edition & my Harper Collins Hardback (in the 2nd volume of the 3 volume HoM-E Collected Edition) I find all three match exactly - not just in terms of page numbers but also layout & font they are the same page.
My assumption, therefore, is that both publishers have used the same e-copy to produce all the variant editions. |
Hey, well done davem. This is good to know!
