What if

What if Frodo hadn't got the help that he needed when he was stabbed.Would Aragorn have destroyed him for the time being or spare him because of there past friendship.

Why won't anyone reply. I am not looking for direct answers just thougts.

You mean if Frodo had become a wraith? Good question. I think that Aragorn would not have killed him unless it was absolutely clear that there was no hope for recovery. Gandalf still thought that there was some hope for Gollum, and he had the ring for 500 years or so and was pretty close to becoming a wraith.

Elven-Maiden 01-23-2002 08:03 PM

I don't think Aragorn would have been able to kill him. It would have been too hard on him.

Carannillion 01-24-2002 04:28 PM

I think Aragorn would have been most capable of killing Frodo. Aragorn (son of Arathorn and all that pompous *** stuff) only knew Frodo as a courier; Frodo had not yet become an official ringbearer, and they were not exactly life-long friends... Gandalf had of course given himspecific instructions on making sure that the Hobbits reached Rivendell unharmed, but how exactly would you bring a wraith along on a hard journey with nine other wraiths hunting you? Tie it up?

As the ultimate goal was to get the Ring to Mt. Doom 'faster than possible', Aragorn would - as a last resort - have been able to kill Frodo.

I think that Aragorn would have been forced to kill Frodo. If Frodo's heart had been pierced, he would have become a wraith like the Nazgul, "only weaker and under their command". With him in the Ringwraiths power, Frodo would have just handed over the Ring, and that would be the end of that.

aren't ringwraiths immortal as long as the ring exists kind of thing?

Eowyn of Ithilien 01-25-2002 03:47 AM

no; Eowyn and Merry killed the Witch-King while his Ring still existed...but certain blades are necessary, perhaps?

Aralaithiel 01-25-2002 04:47 PM

No...they were not men. The Witch-King said that he could not be killed by the hands of man. Eowyn was a woman, and Merry was a hobbit. Or at least that's how I last read it. (Now leaves to go check reference)
