The Numenorean Might Dilemma

I have had a scary thought.

So, the Numenoreans have just created the massive army to attack Valinor and Ar-Pharazon has landed around Tuna, but the elves have deserted the city. And in the letter at the start of the Silmarillion Tolkien said,

Quote:

the Numenoreans could have wrought ruin in Valinor itself
Does that mean that the army which the men of Numenor wielded in their waxing was bigger/better than the very force of the Vanyar that destroyed Morgoth himself? How downright MASSIVE would this be????
Just imagine the possibilities!

Then again, it could just be that the Elves wished to shed no more blood in the Blessed Realm. Hmmmm.....

In a version of Akallabeth it is stated that:

Having said that, I really doubt that the numenoreans could have defeated the valarin forces - but collateral damage was pretty much unavoidable.

It seems you are becoming somewhat familiar with me, good Raynor!

Yes, that is what I was afraid of, but it would have been nice if the Numenoreans really possessed such might, with the sacrifices and Sauron defying the lightning, and their horns outringing the thunder. <sigh>
Occasionally I wonder what the purpose of Men in Middle-Earth really is... probably something for a different thread.

It's like how the victory of the Valar over Morgoth was swift, and yet destroyed the Spring of Arda...
