Considering the lenght of that entire letter, I believe that asking for it on a forum will breach the "fair use" provision and it will get the admins in trouble with Tolkien Estates or the publishers. There have been forums which were closed due to such things.

This page is the most thorough research on the ents that I know of.

Thanks Raynor, i had seen part of letter 144 and wanted to read what more was said after this

Quote:

Tolkien made this ‘assumption’ about the Entwives in Letter #144:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think that in fact the Entwives had disappeared for good, being destroyed with their gardens in the War of the Last Alliance (Second Age 3429-3441) when Sauron pursued a scorched earth policy and burned their land against the advance of the Allies down the Anduin …
I wanted to see if more was said in the letter so that I could use it for our discussion here on the location of the entwives.

Anyone know what publication has all the letters in it?

Alk --

Look here: Tolkien Letter Guide and click on the picture of the book in the upper right hand corner. there are some very inexpensive copies under "Used and New" when the Amazon.com page comes up.

Shipping is a little steep . . . but getting this book is well worth it!
